Saturday, December 15,1849 Arkansas Intelligencer Van Buren, Crawford County, Arkansas CHILD FROZEN TO DEATH On Thursday, the 6th inst., Mr. Michael Johnston, living in the Narrows of Frog Bayou, went into the mountains to hunt, and took with him, a boy about six or seven years of age. Sometime in the afternoon he left the boy and his horse at camp, and upon his return that evening, they were both missing. He followed the track of his horse back to his house, but his boy had not returned. On the fifth day after the boy was missing, he was found dead, under a log. It is supposed he was frozen to death.
