    3. SAM OLIVER ANNOUNCES BID FOR CALHOUN COUNTY, ARKANSAS SHERIFF Sam Oliver of Hampton (AR) announces his plans to seek the office of Calhoun County Sheriff and Tax Collector. Sam was born and raised in Calhoun County, the son of the late Walter Pete and Kathryn Witherington Oliver, graduated from Hampton High School, and attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello from 1959 through 1964, majoring in Biology and Chemistry. He was married to Darien Wallingsford, also of Hampton, until her untimely death in 1993. Their daughter, Lori Oliver Fawbush is a Registered Nurse and lives in Sherwood. Sam is a member of the First Baptist Church of Hampton. They were part of Nathan Bedford Forrest's cavalry back east. The Trans-Mississippi Army specifically asked that the regiment be sent back to Arkansas, in hopes that they could bolster the Arkansas cavalry regiments back home.
