    3. Van Buren Press Crawford County, Arkansas September 24, 1910 NOTORIOUS CROOK LEAVES NOTE FOR JAILER Fayetteville, September 19.-A jail delivery of the boldest character was effected here last night. George Reed, a notorious crook in Fort Smith, who was jailed here on a charge of being implicated in the recent robbery at Winslow, escaped from the crazy cell, leaving a sarcastic noted to the sheriff of the county, thanking him for his treatment and good food, and asking that the sheriff send his best regards to Chief Johnson of Fort Smith. A horse was stolen from J H McIlroy of this place last night, and it is supposed that Reed stole this horse to make his escape. Tracks of the crook were found at Sommera, near here. A strange man was seen riding a horse similar to the description of the stolen horse and a woman riding a smaller horse was seen accompanying him. Reed was implicated in the case with Pearl Starr, a noted resort keeper at Fort Smith, who is charged as being the ringleader in the theft of valuable goods at Winslow.
