RUBY RAE PFEIFER 87, died on Wednesday March 6, 2002 at the Laramie Care Center in Laramie, Wyoming. Ruby was born on March 23, 1914 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Charles Crain, born in Illinois, and Emma Wood Chain, born in Arkansas. She graduated from high school in Muskogee and moved to San Francisco, California, California to attend business school. After graduation, she worked as a legal and medical secretary for ten years in San Francisco, including a position with her future husband, Robert Pfeifer, the owner and director of a medical laboratory. Ruby and Robert were married in 1945. They resided in San Francisco during their first seven years together, moving in 1952 to their home in San Mateo, California where they lived for the next until June 2001 when she moved to Laramie, Wyoming to be close to her daughter, Shirley Pfeifer-Linford. Ruby was an avid golfer, horseback rider, bridge player, and gardener, specializing in raising orchids. For two decades she was a volunteer worker for the Kaiser hospital system and the California blood bank. Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Pete and Howard, and niece, Nancy. She is survived by her son, Robert Pfeifer of Big Oak Flat, California, daughter Shirley Linford of Laramie, son-in-law Gary Linford of Laramie, two nieces: Judy Michaels of Encinitas, California and Vivian Newman of San Mateo, California, and two nephews: Leonard Crain of Petaluma, California and Jack Crain of Dallas, Texas, and three step-grandchildren. An 11:00 A.M. memorial service for Ruby and Robert Pfeifer will be held at the Presbyterian Church in San Mateo, California on Saturday March 23.
