Hi everyone, can anyone offer any possible reasons why, in the 1850s, 2 land patents would be purchased in the woman's name of a married couple? They were living together. This is only family rumor, so I'm very interested in other reasons, but, if he was native American....was it still illegal in the 1850s in AR for Native Americans to own land?
