Editor Press: A man's skeleton was discovered by Frank Kimberlin in the Going Lake, 8 miles above Fort Smith, in the Cherokee Nation. A party of men were notified today and this afternoon went to the place and found several bones of a man and a pocket knife, a lead pencil, an indelible pencil, a pencil holder was fastened in his vest pocket. A portion of his clothing was scattered around the place. The man had been very well dressed in black clothes. A black turban hat with eyelets in each side and pieces of a leather pocketbook were found. No papers were found at all. Some hair found on the skull shows that he had brown hair. From all appearances he had been dead for 5 or 6 months. Pieces of a red cotton handkerchief with white spots on it and also part of a blue percal shirt was found. The knife had a black handle, a small piece was broken off the handle. No trace of identification has yet been discovered. It is supposed he had been murdered and thrown in the lake. Mr. Len Miye has taken the bones and a part of the clothing, etc., to Fort Smith to the U S Court House. It is hoped some one will identify them. P. S. If received in time to publish will you do so in your next issue. Respectfully, J A Alfred. Fran Alverson Warren e-mail: [email protected] 501-369-2703 http://www.crawfordcountyarkansas.net/
