We have been working with them and other opposition groups to stop SB1614. I urge every genealogist, family health historian and historian to immediately sign this petition. Invite your friends and family to support us in defeating this useless piece of legislation which will do nothing to stop identity theft. It will server only to stop honest citizens from using these public records. LET'S LET THEM HEAR FROM US! July 18, 2002---Iris Carter Jones, Legislative Network Coordinator-- President, Genealogical & Historical Council of Sacramento Valley. [email protected] CALL TO ACTION: Petition to Protect the CA Birth and Death Indices. Stop CA Senate Bill 1614 * * * Please forward to every patriotic citizen you know * * * July 15, 2002 This is a Call to Action to all California and US citizens. The California State Legislature is considering Senate Bill 1614, a piece of legislation designed to remove the California birth and death indices from the protection of the California Public Records Act and make these public records off limits to citizens. Senator Jackie Speier, author of SB 1614, claims we need her protection from identity thieves and terrorists and that this bill will keep us safe. No evidence of misuse of the birth or death indices has been put forward. There is NO LINK of these indices to identity theft, cloning, fraud or terrorist acts. Absolutely NONE. In fact, many legitimate users of these indices include: genealogists, journalists, adult adoptees, California bankers, licensed investigators and insurance companies. Many California based businesses use the indices to validate identity and assure proper account access, in essence a protection from identity fraud, terrorist actions, and government abuse. Add your voice to the many who oppose SB 1614. Sign the petition to the California State Legislature requesting them to STOP SB 1614. http://www.PetitionOnline.com/intrepid/petition.html (Your name and personal information will NOT appear on the internet. It will be provided directly to the petition author, Nina Anne M. Greeley, Esq, who will then submit the petition and all signatures to the California State Legislature.) SB 1614 is moving quickly through the legislative process. It is vital that we organize today and let our voices be heard. NO ON SB 1614. PROTECT THE CALIFORNIA BIRTH AND DEATH INDICES. SUPPORT THE CALIFORNIA PUBLIC RECORDS ACT.
