Hi Listers: Another question for the historians of the list. If someone is old enough (ahem!) to have talked to someone who worked in the county clerk's office, Pulaski County State Clerk (or county), I would love to know if clerk's ever asked for input from family on spelling of name of deceased, if the deceased's name was really hard in spelling. I would just like to know, and I'm quite clear on the idea that there was rampant illiteracy, etc. But, if the deceased's family knew how to spell, did the county clerk allow them to tell them? I know this is a little idiotic, but I would just like to know! Looking up unusual names, I find myself using my imagination in finding alternatives in spelling (which helped immensely in my own research). Thank you for responses!
