Does anyone know where Nickle Switch, AR is or was? It may have been somewhere near Cedar Glades in Garland County. Cedar Glades is under water now. All of the other kids in Samual Meek's family were born in Magazine, Logan County but the last one who was born in Nickle Switch. Most of the rest of the family (aunts, uncles, cousins) were born in Cedar Glades or Avant in Garland County. Thanks, Joe George
Using the US GNIS (geographic names information system) web site (http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form), I entered Nickle into 'feature name', set 'Query variant name?' to Yes, and selected 'Arkansas' as the state. One result was a 'Nickleson Branch'. Selecting 'Nickleson Branch' and then selecting 'Show Feature Location' showed that it is a stream approx 30 miles south of Booneville. It is in Scott Co, not Logan or Garland. The full link for the map is below (it will wrap over more than one line so you will have to copy and paste to get it direct into a browser command line http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/MapServer?f_name=Nickleson+Branch&f_state= AR&f_latlong=344658N0934908W&f_ht=1&server=TIGER There is also a Nickles Chapel Cemetery, in Franklin Co. Don't know if these are of any use to you, just passing them along. Sue, I also got a reply about a place called Mickles Switch which is on highway 10 between Ola and Danville in Yell County. That is just down the road from Magazine where the rest of the kids in that Meek family were born. Nice to know about the US GNIS web site. I've bookmarked it now.
