Greetings, well now, I have been searching for the last (possible) people who I believe my family acquired their surname from "GREEN." This has been a 3 year struggle, and I hope someone can help. Arkansas, the year probably abt. 1857-58, my family arrived from N. or S. Carolina. I haven't been able to determine if they came with their owners, or came to be sold to someone as a family unit. Anyway, my cousin found information regarding our family on the 1866 Freedman's Bureau Records Labor Contracts. Only the initials appear on the document 'W. H. Green' as the employer, and it lists my family as his employees. I find a William HH Green on the 1850 Bradley County census as being 9 years old. 1860, the man seems to be history, and this is the year I am very interested in..I know he lived in Milam County, TX. in 1870, but he was still in Arkansas in 1867, as he has a daughter listed on the 1870 Texas census as being born in Arkansas, as being 3 years old. I started searching for him in 1860 (he would have been 19) maybe he still lived with his mother, Mary..can't locate him or her. So, I'm stuck between 1850-60, can someone give some suggestions?
