In reply to Betty's request for death records: There are 3 Arkansas Death Record Indexes compiled by Desmond Walls Allen. They are 1914-1923, 572 pgs., $49.50; 1924 - 1933, 611 pgs. $49.50; 1934 - 1940, 475 pgs, $49.50. These indexes are taken from the Health Dept. Records and show the name of the deceased, date of death and county. Knowing this information, you can then write to the Arkansas Dept. of Heath, Division of Vital Records, 4815 West Markham St., Slot 44, Little Rock, AR 72205-3867 for the actual death certificate. (You can write them for a form or get it from their website). You can order the indexes from Arkansas Research, P. O. Box 303, Conway, AR 72033 (website: http://biz.ipa.net/arkresearch). By the way I have no commercial interest in these publications. I just happened to have bought them and have found them very useful. Of course you can always ask for a look-up--quite a bit cheaper, but not as handy. Hope this helps you get your death certificate for Mary Rhodes and your other Ark. ancestors. Jan By the way I'm sure someone has told Tina by now that the best place to do research in Arkansas is the Ark. History Commission EXCEPT for Arkansas Census Records. Then, you're much better off to go to the Ark. State Library, also in Little Rock. You can do your census research MUCH faster and get a better copy at half the price, AND if you mess one up, they'll help you redo it until you get a good one at no additional charge--not so at the History Commission.
