The lists of names of coal miners in Sebastian County was compiled by the South Sebastian County Historical Society for a monument honoring the miners to be be place in a new park. Corrections or additions to the list may be sent to the Society at P. O. Box 534, Greenwood, AR 72936, but must arrive by May 26, 2000. Donations for the developing of the park or for the monument may also be sent to the Society and are tax deductible. The information listed on the form for the memorial are name, mines worked, killed in mines, died of black lung, name of submitter and phone number. The list appeared in the GREENWOOD DEMOCRAT on May 3 and in the Fort Smith TIMES RECORD on May 13, 2000. If you write to the Society for further information about a name, please include an SASE and remember that, like most local organizations, they are an all volunteer group and always a little short on time and money.
