I received today the following photo-copy of a communication in response to my letter to John Ferguson, Robert L. Laman and Gov. Mike Huckabee regarding the History Commission move. This communication is a memorandum on Arkansas State Building Services stationery. It is not signed. I make no comment, just present this for the group's information. This is a retyping: P. J. Cowling "To: John Ferguson, Director, History Commission From: Robert L. Laman, Director Re: SBS/History Commission Meeting (5/2/00) This memorandum is in response to correspondence I have received regarding the prospective relocation of the History Commission. The correspondence contains misinformation with regards to the issues that were discussed on May 2, 2000, when a meeting between SBS (lessor) and the History Commission (lessee) representatives was held. It is my understanding the following occurred: 1. That due to security problems posed in #1 Capitol Mall and a move requiring the Complex to be closed on weekends, SBS initiated the meeting to explore and discuss what, if any, concerns the History Commission would have if they relocated to another location. 2. SBS made it quite clear that it did not have any identified building for any relocation and that the meeting was for exploration purposes only. To reiterate, SBS does not have any plans, nor does it intend to ask the History Commission to relocate anytime in the near future. The purpose of the meeting was to initiate dialog between the agencies regarding the matter. 3. The History Commission informed SBS of their special needs with regards the leased premises. SBS gave assurances to the History Commission that if any move occurred, the "special needs" of the History Commission would be ensured and a move would only occur if the premises were an improvement to the current location and satisfaction to the Commission. I look forward to meeting with you in person at the June 1, 2000 commission meeting. Cc: Governor Huckabee Richard Davies, Director, Parks and Tourism"
