>Could someone please check for John Wells in the 1850 census of Fulton/Lawrence Co AR? He would be 18 yr and under guardianship of one George Wells. I think we may have discussed this before. Maybe someone will respond with the actual contents, but it is likely to be the same. The listing is in Benton, Fulton Co., AR page 150, Dwelling 11, 03 Oct 1850. The listing actually shows the head of household as G. Wells 25 b: AR, Farmer with property value of $200. John is shown as a student and property value of $200. From this I would conclude that G. (George?) was most likely his brother and the property was probably some left to them by their parents. Given the split I would think there might be either a land record on this or and estate or probate record. I would bet there is no Will given the age of the children. On the same page in Dwelling #3 is the following: E. C. Hunter 50 b: VT Farmer with property valued at $150 Gilbert Wells 26 b: AR Farmer with no property value. It may be Gilbert was a brother to G(eorge) and John. The census was taken the same date by the same census taker so it is unlikely Gilbert and "G." are the same person. Orin R.
