Some few days ago there was a discussion relative to mines in Arkansas. As I am unsure which list hosted the discussion, am posting to both - please excuse duplication. In the April 4,2000 issue of the Arkansas-Democrat-Gazette is a picture of a postcard showing the inside view of the Dixie Fuel Co. mine near Paris, Arkansas. The caption reads "Paris, 1940 For much of the first half of the century the Arkansas River Valley produced substantial amounts of coal. Mining was among the most dangerous occupations, but one chosen by this unidentified gentlemen inside the Dixie Fuel Co., Logan County mine." Hope this helps someone. P. J. Cowling
