I have been researching my HICKS line for 4 years now......have been at a brick wall for just about that long too! :-) Hopeing someone can shed some light on the newest of my puzzles concerning this family. My Grandfather, Uriah Hezekiah HICKS always said that he was born in Fulton Co., Mammoth Spring, Arkansas. I sent for his SS appl. and it said he was born in Newport, Arkansas which is in Jackson Co. THEN, I sent for his Death Certificate..........it states (his son gave the info) that he was born in Lawrence Co., Arkansas!!! I just had to sit down and laugh. I know my Grandfather and my Uncle are probably sitting up there laughing their heads off over my frustration! :-) To make make the waters even muddier.........Uriah said he was born in 1885 BUT, he said his Father Ruben Perry HICKS left his Mother, Margaret (Pinchback) HICKS when she was pg with him. Well......Ruben Perry HICKS is remarried in 1882 in Obion Co. Tenn. So.....Uriah had to be born in 1882 Right?? It doesn't stop there.........Grandfather Uriah always said that his mother Margaret, remarried a teacher in Ark. by the name of Phelix (Felix) MANGRUM. Said he remembered him making him go to school when he was little..............ok.........why can't I find anything on MANGRUM??? He doesn't turn up on census record, death index's, in cemeteries..........no where. No marriage record for them either that I can find. Now Margaret is using the MANGRUM name in 1899 in Corning, Clay Co. when it appears in the paper that she is very ill and being visited by her PINCHBACK brothers. No record of her after that so I assume she died.......where she is buried is yet another mystery! Sorry this is so long and drawn out.........I am just so frustrated~!!! Anyone have any suggestions on how to break through this mess? I would appreciate any and all suggestions or help. The HICKS are having a reunion in June and guess who is suppose to present the family history!!! Guess I can just tell them to "go figure"!! Thanks so much for letting me vent to you all.
