    1. [AGS] Narsis May Stubbs and Velma K. Stubbs Smith
    2. R Kemp
    3. Narsis May and Velma were sisters. They were the daughters of William Allen Stubbs and Mollie H. Worthington Stubbs. I only know about Narsis because her sister Ollie included Narsis' birth year, 1897, on a list of siblings. I know that she is buried in New Hope cemetery in Grant County, AR, although there is no marker for her. I do not know her death year, although she *wasn't* on 1910 AR census of her parents and siblings. What year do the death indexes start? Were children on these indexes? Could someone possibly do a death index search for me? Velma K. was born in January 1914 and died young after marrying George Smith VERY young (14 or 15). Would I write to the county court house for marriage records? Or is there a central local for them? 1. [AGS] Sylvanus T. (nicknamed Vann) Stubbs
    2. R Kemp
    3. First of all, I want to thank those kind, kind people who responded to me about Sylvanus T. (nicknamed Vann) Stubbs the first time. Thank you for your time and effort on my behalf. I am reposting this with the hope that someone can point me in the right direction. Sylvanus (Vann) T. Stubbs - born in April 1899 and died AFTER 1920 son of William Allen Stubbs and Mollie H. Worthington Stubbs. Supposedly, Sylvanus died in Helena, AR in the 30's. However, several people confirmed that this was not true by finding that there are no records of his burial in Helena. He was also not listed in the Death Index. I don't know if he ever married. Where do I look next? 3. A lady wrote to this list and said that she was descended from someone who was married to Thomas David Crutchfield. In my zeal to keep my account open (this account doesn't have much storage space), I deleted her message. I am descended from Thomas's sister, Birdie Crutchfield. I have a small amount of information on the family, if she would like to contact me privately. 1. [AGS] William Allen STUBBS and Mollie H. WORTHINGTON
    2. R Kemp
    3. Hi folks! I posted this information a while back and I'm posting it again in hope that someone can provide me with inspiration. William Allen Stubbs b. 12 Dec 1867 KS d. 24 Sep 1931 (buried in Grant County, AR) This information is taken from William's death certificate. Mollie H. Worthington Stubbs b. 25 May 1880 KS d. 14 June 1914 (buried in Grant County, AR) This information is from Mollie's gravestone and the 1910 census. There is no death certificate on file for her in the Arkansas state records. I checked with the Grant County courthouse and they have no records on burials. The funeral home presently in business in the county wasn't in existence at that time. William worked on the railroad, but I don't know which one. Are there any organizations that I can contact to find information on him? I have William living with his father in Kansas in 1885 and I don't find him again until the 1910 census, living with Mollie in Arkansas. I cannot find the couple in the 1900 census in Arkansas or Kansas. Thanks, Rebecca ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

    2. To Deb; When I was 16 yrs old >1946< My parents sent me from Haileyville, Ok. to Little Rock to purchase a New Automobile part since new parts were still very hatd to find so soon after WW2. after purchasing the new part I was strolling around waiting for a bus I walked down a side street in front of a old funeral home located in an old frame building with a large glass display window and in this window was the body of a lady in a large Iron frame bed, she appeared to be asleep, on the foot of the bed was a small sign giving her name but no other information. Maybe this was common practice back then if a family desired it. No one I ever told this story to would believe me. Best Regards; Charles Hobbs, Shawnee, Ok.

    1. [AGS] Location of homes on 1880 Census
    2. Debra Blackard
    3. <billh@merlin.wizards.net> One can't be exactly sure of the path of the census taker but comparing the order of the census with ownership maps and real estate tax records can help narrow it down. If your ancestor didn't own land perhaps his neighbors did. Check the Agricultural Schedules if your ancestor is listed as a farmer but did not own land. He may have rented or sharecropped for a larger landowner living nearby. Old maps can also help you get a good idea of the roads and streams along which people lived. County court records will sometimes have information about road crews surveying or working a road in a particular area. You may be lucky enough to find directions leading you right to your ancestor's doorway. Look for a district number in the personal property tax records. That may lead you to information about the school district where your ancestor's children attended school. Look for voter registration lists. They may be arranged into polling districts. A long shot could be looking in the background of old family photos. You may see a landmark or landformation that is familiar. Debra Blackard >Does anyone know how to figure the location of homes listed on the >census. For instance if someone was listed as number 30 in the Wheatley >Township, St. Francis County, how could you tell where they actually >lived? > >Thanks, >Joyce > >
