I'm looking for any information on the burial place of Jabes M. Rhodes, he died in August of 1884 in Nevada County, Ar. He is my gguncle and his wife Mary is my gggreatmother. i can'f find when she died. I have called the funeral home in Nevada County, read cemetry books and come up with nothing. I am trying to locate the Looking Glass Magazine, Reflecting Life in the Ouachitas. I understand that it is no longer published. Does any one know where, I could get copies of previous issues? The publisher and Editor in Michael Cate of Waldron, AR. In the issue dated November 1990. This magazine has helped me a lot. I found out that my grandmother was the eleventh child of thirteen. My ggGrandfather name was Jim "daddy" Rhodes who married Rhoda Tredwell and they had 8 children, one of whose name was Martha. Kris, I can tell you that one of the mines in Sebastian Co was the " Jennie Lind", but there many mines in the area. Many were small operations, but in Midland AR only a short distance from Hackett for example, population at its height was several thousand and included several banks and hotels and even had its own telephone exchange. After the mines were worked out, the people followed wherever the next mine was hiring and today Midland is a sleepy little town with a population of about 275-300. I was born there in 1930 and my family was one of those which chose to migrate West and I was consequently raised in CA. Hope this helps with your question re "mines". Hal in FL
I'm looking for any info on Joseph Phillips who was in Hempstead Ark. in May of 1888. He would of been abt. 40 years of age (b.1847). He may have remarried and had at least two more sons (old family rumor). It's possible he died before 1903 but not positive. Would like any info--census, death index, etc. He was born in Ky. Looking for info on a SARAH TUCKER born about 1861-1865 AR. Married a John Ply, they had a daughter Cora Bell Ply b-April 06, 1882 AR. I think she died where Cora was little. John is listed on the 1880 Marion Co., AR census with his parents Jacob & Rebecca Ply, he is 19 at that time.
