I am looking for Jean White. She was born in 1912,1913, or 1914 in Monticello, Drew Co. Arkansas Vital Records does not have any record of her birth. Can anyone suggest other places to search for a birth record for her? I am in Arizona, so I am not close to Arkansas resources. Thank you, Marjane
Jerry Donoho sent me the following URL which is a great one dealing with Quantrill's Raiders and Anderson's irregular Confederates. Many of these men had ties to western Arkansas and Indian Territory after the war (some of them on the wrong side aof the law). <http://www.ukans.edu/heritage/research/quantrill.txt> Jan Eddleman
Many thanks for the several responses I received to my query. I have learned that my ancestor was Junior Deputy in an old Masonic organization. I never ask a question to this list without receiving replies. P. J. Cowling
Can anyone help me find my gggrandfather HIRAM LIVINGSTON? After the war he was granted some land in Ark. He married MARTHA J.(CURTIS) PIGG) in Dover and they settled in Pope County. This was 1867. They had two daughters, one was named LABELIA and I don't know the other daughter's name. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks very much, Carol Livingston Hudson
I am new to genealogy, how accurate have your seasoned researchers found Goodspeed Geographical and Historical Memoirs of Southern Ar (1889) to be. I have been told each person listed submitted their own sheet of info which was printed then returned to the family to recheck for errors. There appears to have been a reprint at sometime with some corrections.I am working with Families from Clark and Pike Co. Meeks-Mauney-Money Willett I appreciate hearing from you.I get the impression Goodspeed is Bible. Thanks very much Mecilla Keene

Can anyone tell me what this organization might have been and what the position "J.D." is/was? Taken from Goodspeeds. This would be after 1850 in Saline County. "Mr. Cameron and family are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, in which he is a trustee and steward. He is also a member of Benton Lodge No. 34, A. F. & A. M. in which he was J. D. and formerly a Wheeler. " Thanks P. J. Cowling
To all Arkansas researchers: Evidently many of you are unaware that the answers to many of your research questions about Arkansas families can be found in U. S. Census records, especially those for 1900, 1910, and 1920. Since Arkansas kept no birth or death records before 1914 these records are even more valuable. Did you know that the 1900 census gives the month and year of birth of each individual in Arkansas, as well as the place of birth of the individual's place of birth, his fathers place of birth, and his mother's place of birth? It also give the number of years of marriage of each couple and the number of children each woman has given birth to and the number alive. 1910 and 1920 censuses give much the same information, but not month and year of birth, just age. Census records from 1850 - 1880 also contain valuable information. Always do your census research and then try other records. Ask at your local Mormon Family History Center (library) about getting U. S. Census records on interlibrary loan. Try them, you may like them. Russell P. Reply to: <Sthang11@aol.com> Perhaps it would be more productive if your husband requested the information you need from his brother Masons. Fraternal organizations may not have the volunteers necessary to do research for genealogical purposes. Is it possible that you could hire a local researcher to obtain the records you need? >Don't count on ANY Grand Lodge giving you information. I was very >disappointed > >You can be sure that in my records that my Children and generations to come >will know that my husband was a MASON and Knights Templar And A Shriner. > >Annette > >
Oscar Russell is making a great contribution to the genealogical and historical community by indexing death information from the old Arkansas Gazette and the current Arkansas Democrat/Gazette. He donates a copy to the Arkansas Genealogical Society for review in our quarterly publication, The Arkansas Family Historian. The book is then donated by AGS to the Arkansas History Commission. The Arkansas History Commission has these newspapers on microfilm and copies of the obituaries or death notices may be ordered from them. Regarding purchase of his publications, you may contact Oscar Russell by phone or letter at: Oscar F. Russell 605 Loop Road North Little Rock, AR 72120-2216 Phone: (501)835-7479 To order copies of the information from the Gazette or the Arkansas Democrat/Gazette you need to contact the Arkansas History Commission, One Capitol Mall, Little Rock, AR 72201. You will need to give them the name of the paper, the date of the paper, the page and column number, and the name of the deceased person.
Would someone please do a look up on a man by the name of Moll, his first name maybe have started with a M. and his wife Annie Wole. She could have been married before to a person by the name of Orlinge, this spelling could be off. Mr. Moll was born 1880 Miss. and Annie was born 1883 Ark. Thank you very much Mary Ann Wiseman
What is the address for the dealth index for all the states? Thanks. Linda
Thanks to all of you that replied to my query about what happened to Union Co. I was on a Roots AR page looking for Union Co. and couldn't find it listed so assumed that it had been split-up into other counties. Thanks for setting me straight. Ellen Tolleson Reesh
I am still looking for information on Roy Keene, born June 11, 1909 in Alabama, died April 26, 1965 in Logan County, Arkansas. He may have lived in one of the surrounding counties. I understand he had one child, but do not have a name. I would like to contact any of Mr. Keene's family, or anyone with any information about him or his family. Thanks, Ann
Don't count on ANY Grand Lodge giving you information. I was very disappointed. After requesting infromation on the date my father was raised as a Mason THE Grand Lodge of Texas sent me a letter denying me that info. I can go to Texas to the Grand Lodge in Waco and look at some records, but as I live in SC now, that is impossible for me. My father was a Mason in Texas. He had a masonic funeral at the grave site. I was 17 at the time and very distraught. I didn't pay attention to the cermony. I am sure they said how long he was a Mason. SO I will never know how long he was a Mason. You can be sure that in my records that my Children and generations to come will know that my husband was a MASON and Knights Templar And A Shriner. Annette

List Members, To try to answer some of the questions that I have received: 1. No, I cant do look ups, sorry, I was only commenting on how "we" Genealogist may persuade The Grand Lodge to start a program on the internet of the genealogical information on the deceased members of the lodges. 2. Address your request to " The Master of the Lodge and Members, Ask for the request to be read at the meeting, Give as much information about the ancestor as you can, Don't forget to give your kinship to the ancestor. I.E.. instead of stating " My great great grandfather was a mason of your lodge" Use something like this "My Dad John Doe's father Jack Doe was a member" One of the Members may remember John Doe and this would lead them to the Jack Doe even if John Doe wasn't a member. 3. The information you receive from the lodge will vary from lodge to lodge and from member to member. In most cases you should get his full name, dob, dod, It will depend on how much of the information has survived. 4. Not to confuse other organizations with the Mason, But here is the request information on a couple other ones. INDEPENDENT ORDER of ODD FELLOWS http://norm28.hsc.usc.edu/IOOF.shtml The Woodsman of the World, I couldn't find my notes on this one, but I'm sure I've read something about it on the net. Hope this helps, Dennis
