When I posted a message asking for help in finding my great grandmother I failed to add that my elderly aunt also gave me the spellng of Masilia for my great grandmother.
I would appreciate help in obtaining information on my great grandfather Basil Gaines. I am not sure of the spelling of his christain name. He was born in Tennesee . I would guess the time period of his birth to be approximately 1865 or a few yeaars later. My elderly aunt says hs family came from England. He married Amela/Amellia/Masilia Katherine Bean in Arkansas. They had a daughter Queen Vicrtoria born 12-4-1888 in Arkansas. Queen Victoria married Jerry Harley Wonser and in the early 1900's both tje gaines and Wonsers moved to Washington state. Basil died in the early 1930's in Eurica Flatts near Port Angeles. Thank You, Lila Vaugh

This is definitely a stretch, but suggest you look in SC. The family name Pinkney was very well known in this state and several named children/grandchildren for this family out of respect. Hi Listmember, <http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ar/biography/bios-ark1.htm> is a very good site, but I did not find John M. Parker listed there and he is listed in the Goodspeed of Southern Arkansas. This may be just an oversight that he is not listed. I do not know if there are others not listed. If you do not find your people listed at the site above, try to find the Goodspeed for the county where you family lived. Thanks, Ellen Parker

At some date in the early 1900's both the Gaines and Wonser's moved to Washington state. the Wonsers' settled in Walla Walla and the Gaines lived at one time in Ureca Flatts close to Port Angeles. Gramma Gaines died around 1920.Any information or lead would be greatly appreciaed. Thanks, Lila Vaughn
Les, and list, Yes, It is Great that he was able to find his ancestors through the Masons. But I bet you would agree, That it would be just as great if all descendants of Masons could find their ancestors, Just as your friend did. This is why I urging everyone to write to the Grand Lodge and let them know of the interest and have them put the information on the internet for all descendants. I hope no one thinks were "Bashing" the Masons or putting them down in any way, But rather see this as a group of family genealogist working together to advance our family trees. Hope this helps, Dennis "by way of Jan Davenport " wrote: > Just a comment on this. I am a Master Mason. Annette, and list, Yes it is very disappointing, but turn your frustrations into a positive note. Muster and rally all family genealogist to write to the respective Grand Lodges and urge them to put together a program on the net of the deceased members. Remember, The Masons are always looking for a way to improve there standing with the public, You would be doing them a favor by letting them know there is a interest in the past brethren. As I stated one e-mail wont make it happen, It will take a ton of it. The only hope one has now is to find a member that is willing to look up the record at the local lodges. So, Please write to the Grand Lodge and urge them to start a genealogical program on the internet. Hope this helps, Dennis "by way of Jan Davenport " wrote: > Don't count on ANY Grand Lodge giving you information. I was very > disappointed. I'm researching my Nutt family history and have hit a brick wall as far as Eleanor Patron Nutt born 1804 in Wake county N.C. and died in Clark County 1880. Eleanor her children and husband William T. Lightfoot came to Clark Co. Ark. around late 1840's. My great great grandfather (Henry Nutt) also from Wake N.C. , his wife, Sharah Porch and children, John w. ,Hixie,Hillard,William and Adolphus who was born in DeSoto Miss. came with the Lightfoot family to Clark Co. We are searching for Eleanor's parents and siblings. We think Eleanor and Henry were brother and sister but so far no proof. If anyone has any information on the this Nutt family we'd greatly appreciate hearing from you. Thanks Grady
Please add my name to your mailing list. Although a native of Little Rock, I have not lived in Arkansas for many years. However, I am deeply involved in genealogy for the Snodgrass Clan Society and many of my ancestors, and ancestors of others, were residents of Arkansas at one time or another. I am the editor of a genealogy journal for the Snodgrass Clan Society, called THE MACE. It is published twice a year, in April and October. Also, I publish a Family Name Registry which lists our currently active members and the names of the individuals each is researching. In the past I have given copies of some journals to the LR Public Library, but during my most recent visit I learned that such were apparently 'lost' since they are not in the library. If you have suggestions as to that library or other sources that might be interested in receiving copies of THE MACE, please let me know. Thank you. Paul D. For all who are interested....Goodspeeds books are available for all states and most counties in existence in the 1870-80's...The books publisher sent representatives around to compile the short bios of the families in each county..Also, they put in a detailed history of most of the counties, with the movers and shakers of the communities getting a lot of good publicity in the books... The families who wanted to put their bios in the book had to pay a subscription price so a lot of the poorer families are not represented...Nopturally, anyone with a business, or who was active in politics would want to have a nice bio available for the world to see... I have two ancestors mentioned in Goodspeeds, in Tennessee and Kentucky, and both lied valiently about their importance....LOL... ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Found in an old family bible belonging to a member of the Hanna family of Hempstead County, AR this newspaper clipping. No newspaper or date is available, but judging from the other clippings found in the same place, should have been 1904 - 1919 and may be the Nashville, AR newspaper. The town of Ozan mentioned in article is in Hempstead County. Posted for whatever it might be worth to a researcher. If anyone recognises this person and can tell me the connection to the Hanna family, I would be appreciative. P. J. Cowling "McCaskill Man died suddenly at home Sunday. Oscar l. Bryant victim of acute indigestion after eating a hearty dinner. HAD LIVED HERE Was Assistant Postmaster here several years ago -- Prominent merchant at Mccaskill at Death. Oscar L. Bryant, aged about 45 years, died suddenly at his home at McCaskill Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, his death resulting from an attack of acute indigestion. Funeral services were held at the Ozan cemetery at Bingen Monday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Thompson. Mr. Bryant had attended church Sunday morning and was feeling as well as usual. After church the Rev Mr. Thompson accompanied him home for dinner, and Mr. Bryant ate a very hearty meal. He then went to the porch and joined Mr. Thompson for a conversation. He had been seated there only a few minutes when he clutched his throat and told Mr. Thompson he was choking. Mr. Thompson rushed to him and called for help. Mrs. Bryant, who had gone to the home of a neighbor, rushed home to assist with her husband, but he only gasped a few breaths before he was dead. It is said that he suffered an attack of acute indigestion a few years since and had been on died since that time. Mr. Bryant, who was reared at Bingen was well known in this city, having made his home here several years since, when he was assistant postmaster here. He went to McCaskill from this city and engaged in the mercantile business, in which he was very successful, and at the time of his death was one of the leading merchants of his section of the state. He was a man of splendid personality and of the highest moral type. Deceased is survived by his wife and one son, Owen, 7 years old. He is also survived by one brother, Willie Bryant, whose home is in Oklahoma."
