Do all archives have the same information available? If I send off for, let's say, service records at the NARA in Wash., DC, would I get the same info as if I were to go to the archives branch in my backyard in Ft. Worth, TX? And, I know that it is suggested to request "all records," but with this new proposed fee, will they only send the usual $10.00 worth for now until the new $40.00 fee is in effect? I am going to Wash., DC in July or Aug. Would it be better just to wait and do my own research while I am there, and copy what I want, probably at a cost less than $40.00, and I would not receive it for a few months anyway if I sent off for it? I am at a quandary as what by best avenue would be at this point. Any suggestions? Thank you, Kirsten --part1_43.41ff332.263e2c0c_boundary--

1. [AGS] Re: Searcy Co. Pictures
2. I have just uploaded some pictures that were taken in Searcy Co. AR. I'm not sure who the people are, or when they were taken. I'm assuming that they were taken in the early 1900's. If you have relatives in that area, you might want to take a look at them. Some of the people are HAMILTONS, not sure about the rest. ZingAlbum: Cathy's Genealogy Pictures Cathy Switzer Conn RE: SWITZER, CHADWICK, TAYLOR, HAMILTON, DOWTHARD, ROBERTSON, MANES.

1. [AGS] Naming Sequence
2. sheila johnson
3. Hello to all: If this has been asked in the past I have missed it. But is there a naming sequence that our ancestors named their children? I mean like the first born male would normally be named after the husband's father, the second after the wife's father and the same for the girls? I asked this because I am stuck trying to get past my GG Grandfather. Thought if I could figure out something like above I might have a start to look for his parents. Thanks in advance for any help. -- Thank you Sheila Please visit my Home page at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Village/2748/

1. [AGS] Petray Surname and Walter Custer
2. Has anyone heard of either of these names out there? The Petray surname is very closely related to my family lines and my great great grandmother married a John Petray, but I have not been very successful in locating anyone else who is researching these two names who have a connection. I have been told all my life and still am by my father that my great grandmother and her mother are Cherokee and I have located land information (thanks to some of you for the information on the land records sites) that leads me to believe that this is true. I also would like to know if anyone has an idea of how or where to go to find out the indian name of an ancestor when we only have a Christian name or English name. This seems to be a real problem to locate a resource for this type of research. Thanks to anyone who can help. LL

1. [AGS] Need input.......real puzzle.......HICKS
2. I have been researching my HICKS line for 4 years now......have been at a brick wall for just about that long too! :-) Hopeing someone can shed some light on the newest of my puzzles concerning this family. My Grandfather, Uriah Hezekiah HICKS always said that he was born in Fulton Co., Mammoth Spring, Arkansas. I sent for his SS appl. and it said he was born in Newport, Arkansas which is in Jackson Co. THEN, I sent for his Death Certificate..........it states (his son gave the info) that he was born in Lawrence Co., Arkansas!!! I just had to sit down and laugh. I know my Grandfather and my Uncle are probably sitting up there laughing their heads off over my frustration! :-) To make make the waters even muddier.........Uriah said he was born in 1885 BUT, he said his Father Ruben Perry HICKS left his Mother, Margaret (Pinchback) HICKS when she was pg with him. Well......Ruben Perry HICKS is remarried in 1882 in Obion Co. Tenn. So.....Uriah had to be born in 1882 Right?? It doesn't stop there.........Grandfather Uriah always said that his mother Margaret, remarried a teacher in Ark. by the name of Phelix (Felix) MANGRUM. Said he remembered him making him go to school when he was little..............ok.........why can't I find anything on MANGRUM??? He doesn't turn up on census record, death index's, in cemeteries..........no where. No marriage record for them either that I can find. Now Margaret is using the MANGRUM name in 1899 in Corning, Clay Co. when it appears in the paper that she is very ill and being visited by her PINCHBACK brothers. No record of her after that so I assume she died.......where she is buried is yet another mystery! Sorry this is so long and drawn out.........I am just so frustrated~!!! Anyone have any suggestions on how to break through this mess? I would appreciate any and all suggestions or help. The HICKS are having a reunion in June and guess who is suppose to present the family history!!! Guess I can just tell them to "go figure"!! Thanks so much for letting me vent to you all. Rita (HICKS) DonCarlos

1. [AGS] Migratory Route
2. Hello, I have run into such a stubborn brick wall, that I have decided to try another approach. Surname(s): HESTERLY, HESTERLEY,HASTERLY, HETHERLEY or variants My Basic Facts: My earliest record of a person with my surname is 1688 in VA, then there is an approximate 100 year break until another is found in 1778 in Anne Arundel, MD, my next appearance is in 1779 in SC/GA, but my earliest documented connection is 1820 in Hall County GA. As you can see the sitings are scattered over the MidAtlantic Coast and the Southeastern states. Now to my question: Is there a recognized route that people used to travel southward from, say, Maryland or Pennsylvania to Georgia? Based on the belief that people "worked" their way along their journey, I thought that it would give me a chance to backtrack along it to see if there were any signs of my ancestors having been present. I am open to any and all suggestions Thank you for your assistance. Hal Hesterly

1. [AGS] School Records?
2. Hi everyone, Does anyone know how to or if you can get copies of school records? I am searching for Douglas Carroll Chamlee b. 6-21-1927 in the Prescott area. I think the years would be approx. 1932/33 to 1938/39. I am curious because I located a copy of his birth cert. name given DUGLAS JUNIOR CHAMLEE. There is a Affidavit for Correction of a Record changing the name to Douglas Carroll Chamlee and also the birth date from June 17, 1927 to June 21, 1927, but it is not filed until July 28, 1944 from Indiana. I don't know why it wasn't corrected sooner. All family who could tell us are deceased. Trying to see what the records show in Arkansas BEFORE they moved to Indiana. Does anyone have any ideas? Any other records I could try? Thanks :) Angela

2. Try this address for inquiries of this type: http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html It is possible, once you have a hit, to also access a variety of maps which will pinpoint the location. No listing appears for Coffeyville in either the 'populated place' nor 'cemetery' category, but for Coffeeville, the following under 'populated place' . No cemetery with this spelling. Feature Name: Coffeeville Feature Type: populated place Elevation: 250 State: Arkansas County: Jackson USGS 7.5' x 7.5' Map: Bradford Latitude: 352928N Longitude: 0912401W << Will someone please tell me what town and county Coffeeville Cemetery is in? Is it Coffeeville Cemetery or Coffeyville Cemetery? Phyllis>>
