I just received my aunt's Social Security Card application. She lists herself as being born in 'Brooks, Jefferson County, Arkansas'. There is NO Brooks that I can find in present-day Jefferson County. There WAS a Brooks in Saline County and I found a few hits for Grant County. So, how do I know which place was the right place? Rebecca p.s. She was born in 1902. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
Dear Friends, Can someone in Conway and Pope County look up a marriage for me? The Shumate family lived in both Morrilton and Russellville, and I don't know exactly when or where the marriage took place. The parties were Dorothy E. SHUMATE (any spelling) and Harry Sterling BOYD, and the marriage could have occurred any time between 1926 and 1932. This is a problem, because I don't have any other information as to the date or place. Thank you so much for helping me. Jo Anna Dale <jdale@swbell.net>
A mortality schedule is a census form that was filled out for the people who had died during the year prior to taking the census. For instance, if the census were taken 1 June 1880, the 1880 mortality schedule would include the people who had died between 1 Jun 1879 and 1880. Hopefully! It's not very complete, but is always worth looking at. Diana -- *************************************************** Diana J. A great History site has just come to my attention. It is well worth checking out. http://www.thehistorynet.com/ It is called the web's best history site. There are articles from 15 magazines including British Heritage. Each week a new title goes online, adding to the hundreds of articles and images in their archives. Carolyn

Mortality schedules were taken as a part of the US Census from 1850-1880. In the US Census years of 1850-1870 taken on June 1 of those years and on May 31 of 1880, the mortality schedules recorded those who died during the year prior to the "official" day of the census. In 1850 and 1860, the mortality schedules asked for name, age, sex, color, free or slave, marital status, birthplace, month of death, occupation, cause of death. 1870 mortality schedules added whether mother/father were foreign born, and 1880 added how long the deceased had been a resident of the county and other info re the death. Dear Richard, From Conway County, Our Land, Our Home, Our People compiled by the Conway County Historical Society, Second Edition, Published by Historical Publications of Arkansas, Little Rock, copyright 1989, 1992 pg. 251. "Eva Janes's [Eva Jane Warmsley Bostian born in Illinois] family moved to Overcup where she got a job in the post office. She was 14 years old when she married William Bostian and he was 16. They had their wedding in the middle of the road in the front of the Overcup Post Office. Eva Jane had a sore foot at that time and could only wear one shoe. "From this union they had 13 children. . . .6. Dora Viola Irena Belle -- 1908 -- deceased--married McKinley Taylor -- deceased--12 children -- Floy Bell, Mary Lee, Leota, J. W., Cecil, Vernon, Marion, Betty, Joyce, Bonnie, Waylong, and James." Unfortunately, I don't have the marriage record you requested. You might try Euna Beavers at bbeavers@ipa.net. She has compiled some marriage records, and is president of the Conway County Genealogical Assoc. and a font of information for the county. If you need a look-up, next time I go to the Conway County Courthouse, I'll try to find the record, although it may be a week or two. Please let me know if you'd like me to do this. My email is jcport@aol.com, and I'm always glad to help out a fellow Conway county researcher. Hi all, I just joined the AGS list and thought I'd introduce myself. I run the genclass-l (free 8 genealogy classes) and am currently doing research on the Proctor family of Wynne, Arkansas as a wedding present for my best friend, as a surprise, so I can't really ask for help from the family. Currently I'm back to Everett Proctor, d. 1976 in Wynne, Arkansas, an attorney. His son, Richard L. Proctor, is a judge in Wynne, Arkansas at the present. Any information on the obit of Everett Proctor and whom his parents were would be greatly appreciated. I'd be willing to assist in your own research in return, if you'd like. I live a block from the Iowa Historical Society so have access to a lot of info on the Midwest. Thanks! Stacy, I don't know if you are aware of it, but a VIRUS was attached to the message you sent me (see below). Happy99.exe attaches to email you send out, so I don't know how many people will download it without checking. I'll tell the folks at AGS about it so they will be on the lookout. If you have information on Thomas Blackstone Owen, I'd still like to hear from you.
