Linda, I hope this gets to you. I saw your note that you lived near Quitman in Cleburne Co., AR and would help someone interested in that area. I have ancestors who I believe lived near Quitman and I have been told they are buried in "Holland" Cemetery. Do you know if there is a Holland Cemetery near Quitman or in Cleburne Co., and if so is there a listing of who is buried there? The family I am interested in is: John A. Grigg(s) b. between 1813 and 1820 in VA; m. 12 Aug 1839 in Roane Co., TN Martha E. (Bacon) Grigg(s), b. ca 1822 in TN, dau. of Allen Stokes Bacon. their children included: Mary J. Grigg(s), b. ca. 1841 TN George W. Grigg(s), b. ca. 1843 TN Malinda Pocahontas Grigg(s), b. ca. Jan 1846/47 in TN (my ancestor) Sarah Grigg(s), b. ca. 1849 AR Henry C. Grigg(s), b. ca. 1852 AR Sally E. Grigg(s), b. ca. 1855 AR Malinda Pocahontas "Pokie" Grigg(s) first married George Ligon and became the mother of John W., Mary Alice, Sarah Manerva "Sally", and Martha Brad Ligon. After George Ligon's death she married my ancestor, John Toliver Killough. They had Henry Clay, Mary Catherine (my grandmother), and Joseph Alexander. Pokie and John Killough later divorced. She lived in Searcy Co. when she died in 1908 and she is buried in Marshall Cem. Nothing further is known of her siblings. It is believed that John and Martha Grigg(s) moved from Tennessee to Arkansas with the families of two of Martha's sisters, Mary S. "Polly" (Bacon) Lay, wife of William H. Lay, and Susanna (Bacon) Patty, wife of Obed Patty. In an excerpt from a biographical sketch of "Polly's" husband, William H. Lay, appearing in "A History of Van Buren County, Arkansas, 1976" the following is recorded about the family migration: "This pioneer family came on flatboats, built by the men at Loudon, Tennessee, on Sweetwater Creek (a tributary to the Tennessee River), to the Ohio, down the Mississippi, following the Arkansas River to Arkansas Post. >From Arkansas Post they went by ox-drawn wagon to the Quitman Area (in Van Buren County)." In 1850 John and Martha were living in Jefferson Twp., Carroll Co., (later Boone Co.), AR. In 1853, John and Martha Griggs sold three acres of land for "a campground" to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Crooked Creek (now Harrison) in what is now Boone Co. They were paid $7.50 for the land. There is a BLM Cash Entry Sales record of a John A. Grigg "of Van Buren County", buying 320 acres in what is now Cleburne County on September 1, 1857. William H. Lay and Obed Patty purchased land in the same area, perhaps joining. Martha Grigg is found in 1860 as the head of a household in Van Buren Co., Cadron Township (of which part became Cleburne County with its creation); that record would suggest that John may have been dead by that time (i.e., between 1857 & 1860). She was still there in 1880. Any help you, or anyone else can give me on this family would be appreciated. Hello, Does anyone out there have any history on the old Grubbs Church of Christ? Thanks, Suzanne
Arkansas had an 1870 Mortality Census - and maybe others. That one I have used. It recorded deaths the year before the census was taken. J. The Nevada County web page has all Nevada County Cemeteries posted on their web page. And they are current, too. The URL is listed below incase you are leery of clicking on a blue-line quick link below the URL below. Just click on the Cemeteries link when you get to the web page of Nevada County. Hi Sharon...Since Horatio, AR is in Sevier County, I would start with the Sevier County Web Page. Go to this site: http://www.rootsweb.com/~argenweb/arcounty.htm Scroll down to Sevier and click. That will take you to the Sevier County Page. All sorts of good info on this page, including a lot of cemeteries. If you don't find what you're looking for, there are lookup volunteers to help you. Give it a try. Lois in CA

A distant relative I knew only as "Sondolph" was actually 'Adolphus.' He was probably called "Son"-dolph because his grandfather was also named Adolphus, appearing in the census as "Dolph." tootncmon

Ark. Gazette Nov. 11, 1887, Hamburg, Ark, Nov. 9 - Capt. J.W. Norris, after a protracted illness of eight weeks, breathed his last about 12 o'clock on Friday night last, surrounded by his family, relatives, and friends. All that loving hearts, tender hands and the skill of physicians could do to stay the hand of death was done, but for sometime it was seen that the end must soon come. His remains were buried in the cemetery here on Sunday morning, the Knights of Honor and Knights of Pythias officiating, he having been a member of both lodges. The ceremonies were solemn and impressive and almost the entire town turned out to pay their last respects to the deceased. Capt. J.W. Norris was born in Lincoln county, Tennessee, October 31, 1836. In 1847 his family moved to this county while he was quite a youth. He grew up to manhood and has been an honored citizen of Ashley county ever since. He entered the confederate army at the beginning of the late war as lieutenant, and was soon afterward elected captain of the Third Arkansas. He remained throughout the entire war, was always at his post of duty, and was in many a hard fought and deadly battle. He married some fifteen years ago, and leaves a loving and devoted wife and three children to mourn his severe loss. He was a kind and affectionate husband and indulgent father. He was, in every sense of the word, one of our best citizens, and his death will be deeply deplored by all those who knew him. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

Castleberry, daughter of William and Margaret E. Wainwright was born in Sharp County, Arkansas, August 10, 1862; was married to Benjamin H. Castleberry on the 10th of April 1881. Professed religion in September, 1882, and died September 30, 1884. She was a very consistant christian and died with the song of triumph on her lips; singing, "I am going home to die no more." Saying how easy it is for a christian to die. She was a devoted wife and obedient daughter and one of the best of women. She has left many relatives and a large circle of friends to mourn her loss. I am having a hard time locating my grandparents marriage record. I know they were married on July 1, 1912 just not what county. Their names are Benjamen F. Allen (Ben F.) and hers was Josie Ellen Hale. Although she was married to a George Reynolds on December 20, 1908 in Faulkner County. They lived in cabot most of their lives her family was from Greenbrier and Mayflower. They were Pate's and Hale's. His parents were William A. Allen and Laura C. Bowman. I amd having a hard time with this side also they were from Tennessee and came to Faulkner County Arkansas in 1879. My grandparents had nine children my father's name is Jacob Trafton Allen (Jake) and he still lives in Cabot. Any information on this side of my family would be appreciated. Thanks Soni
I am new at this but would like to find where my Grandfather was buried and maybe an obit. He died in Horatio, AR. His name was Eber Eastman Bias died in 1953. Any help greatly appreciated.
I am looking for information on the families of the following people. Mary Chambers (we think was her last name because she had a brother named Charlie Chambers), born 1860 (don't know where), died 1923 (don't know where) according to information in a family Bible. She married three times - once to ? Arnold and had two known children: Clifford Arnold (remained in Hot Springs, Arkansas) and Flora Arnold (went to Texas). Mary married ? Bennett and had two children: Cora Delia Bennett and a child that died young due to excessive burns when her clothes caught on fire. She married ? Porter but had no children known to us. Cora Delia Bennett (my husband's grandmother) was born in February 20, 1885 in Greenbrier, (and this is confusing because it is not in White County but the Bible states White County), Arkansas, d. November 19, 1970 in Electra, Texas m. Thomas Russell Young on July 20, 1902 in Morrilton, AR. He was b. May 2, 1880 in Tennessee (don't know where), d. November 16, 1952 in Electra, Texas. He was known to be an orphan who ran away from the people who took care of him in Tennessee to family members in Arkansas. We always heard her say that her family were truck farmers. She owned a restaurant in Electra, Texas. The only other leads we have are references in the family to White County, Conway County and Hot Spring County. We also have a photo taken in Arkansas with a family called Logan. However, first names were not listed. The photo was probably taken around 1910 - 1915. Any help on any members of this family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Betty E. More
I am lookinf for info on my ggrandfather, Benjamin J. Critendon. All I know is he was born in Arkansas and is father's name was Dolf? It has been a real dead end as he moved to Texas in 1902. cynthia
I didn't know that a letter could mean that someone else also has the number, but I do know that railroad employees had letters put after their SSN.
