    3. I have never tried to look up anything on a census and have absolutely no idea how to do this. If I wanted to look up people from Center Ridge, Conway County, Arkansas in the 1870 census, how would I do this? Where would the census be found? Thanks for any help. Phyllis

    2. Hi List, I just got a new book. The Arkansas Gazette Obituaries Index 1819-1879. In this book it list the persons name, mo, day, yr, pg and column of the newspaper. You would then have to get the newspaper for that date to see the obit. It's all alphabetized, so if anyone wants me to check for their family...send me the name. Sandy in Oregon

    3. There are several states which I would be interested in getting onto a similar listing such as we have for the Arkansas listing (Mississippi, Missouri, Tennessee, Georgia). Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all your hard work. We DO appreciate you so very much. 2. I've been watching the messages about the Soundex coding software, so I thought I would forward the following information. If you want to quickly convert a surname to the Soundex code while you are online, you can go to: <A HREF="http://www.nara.gov/genealogy/soundex/soundex.html">The Soundex Machine</A> OR http://www.nara.gov/genealogy/soundex/soundex.html There are many sites where you can download a converter program. Here is just one that seems to be a good one. <A HREF="http://www.tdrake.demon.co.uk/soundex1.exe">ShowSoundEx program information</A> OR http://www.tdrake.demon.co.uk/soundex1.exe Hope this helps someone. 1. Re: [AGS] Soundex Program- Addendum
    2. roussie
    3. List Members, I feel I need to add an addendum to the message I sent earlier regarding the Soundex program I offered in a previous message. I was checking out the program, and making sure the file I had was intact and functional before I sent it to anyone, and in the process discovered that in the drop-down menu there is an address listed where one can register the program for $5.00, which leads me question if this was intended to be shareware rather than freeware. To the absolute best of my recollection it was offered as a "free" download, and there is no user agreement included with it, so I don't think there is any breach in forwarding it as I have offered to do to anyone who wants it, but I do want to be as up front as possible about the information I have on it. Especially since I am new to this particular list, and thus don't have a history here, I want to make it perfectly clear that I am in no way involved in marketing this program, and have no vested interest in it- monetary or otherwise. I offered to forward it to others who might could use it in the spirit of mutual assistance characteristic of RootsWeb, with no personal agenda whatsoever. Since anyone could download the program, just as I did, from the site- (if I could remember where I got it)- and I am sending it intact, exactly as I downloaded it, I don't see that there is any moral or ethical problem in forwarding it, as I previously offered, I just felt I should make sure it was accurately represented. Now that I am aware, if I can verify the address (since the I have had the file for a year or so now), I personally don't mind sending the author $5.00 for the use of the program... in fact, it seems to me to be quite a bargain, as I feel certain other researchers will agree. In fact, I would be happy to see the person who did the work compensated the for his effort- just please understand that I have no connection to him, or the marketing of this program. For those who request the program, the registration information is located as described above, so 'do as ye will' , just as you would if you had located it at the long-lost site. That said, I have already sent a couple of copies of the program, and if they arrive without problem, I now have the zip file set up as an attachment that can be added to an email message with just a couple of clicks of the mouse- so those of you who would like to have the program just let me know... Best regards, ========================='leigh Ashleigh Morgan Thames <boudiccat@mindspring.com>

Also, if anyone has info. on the Blacker family of Sebastian County, I would like to exchange information. April Alexander

    2. Does anyone have an idea how I might locate the burial place for Daniel Smathers, my great great grandfather? I know he lived in Yell county and am quite sure he died there around 1885-1889. I have tried to locate by working in the Yell county area on the usgenweb but have had no success. Thanks to anyone and all for any help you might offer. Linda L.

    1. [AGS] Soundex Program
    2. roussie
    3. Hi, I'm new to the list, so came in late on this discussion, but inferring from the response below, it seems someone was in need of soundex codes? I have a freeware program that I downloaded that has the codes. All you have to do is enter the name, as best you know it to be- and it will give you the soundex code. I have only used it a few times, and don't claim to be an expert on soundex, but it worked great for what I needed. I don't remember now where I found it- one of the genealogy sites (duh.)- but I just checked, and I still have the program zip file, and I should be able to send it to anyone who is interested. I have scanned it for viruses, and have used it on my computer, so I am confident that it is a clean file (though I would always encourage anyone running any imported .exe file to scan to their own satisfaction). If anyone would like to have this program, just send me a note- off list, and I'll be happy to send you the zip file. ===================='leigh On 29 May 2000, at 0:31, LLynch9242@cs.com wrote: > Hi everyone, I found a place with all the cemeteries in Arkansas and there are > maps that we can zoom in on and locate exact location of a particular cemetery. > However, since then I have completely forgotten where that was and really need > to locate it again.
