I am looking for information on the death of James Thomas Reed. he was born In 1848 DeSoto Ms. and was the Justice of the Peace in Cleveland or Bradley Co. ARK. I think he died in 1935 but would like to make sure. I would like to have the address of the Cleveland County Historical Society if there is one, once I have the correct information in order to research further. many thanks to all of you for all of your help. Pat
I am searching for descendants of William, Dennis and Anthony Baucom of Newton County. The three brothers were living in Newton County in 1870 and by 1880 only William and Dennis can be found there on census records. What happened to Anthony? His widow shows up on the 1900 Madison County census. The name of Baucom has been spelled so many different ways (over 50) that it has been a hard one to research. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Marietta
Congratulations to Linda Haas Davenport upon being the usgenweb Arkansas county site winner of the month with her Marion Co page-- and to Wendy Gayle for alerting us to this winner--and for the great Lincoln Co page which she manages. Both these ladies do super work and are very generous with their talents. May their tribe increase. Best wishes, Ed

Rose on the list suggested I do a look at Rootweb and I looked up just Burkhart and found a Burkhart(Harmon Bailey (POPPY) who was from Kentucky and went to Van Buren Arkansas.I knew my father had cousins in Arkansas and so I looked up Poppy's parents and their children and found my dear old Grandpa Burkhart> I am now looking for any relatives of this direct line ans will search further in Kentucky for the relatives there. James S. Burkharts children were George, Nancy Jane, Harmon Bailey (POPPY) and Leander by his first wife( Stacy Bailey )Then he married Elizabeth MCCARTY and the following children were born to them, Cordia, Neoma (OMA), Arizona(ZONA), Mary Katherine(KATE), Abigil (ABBIE), William Freances, Stacy, Walter Richard, and Burtha Susan. The first four children were born in Kentucky(Probably Harlan or Harlan county) and the rest were born in Arkansas (Van Buren I assume) I woul love to hear from any of these cousins or their children or their children. Sincerely Peggy Phillips Peggylvn@juno.com
I'm still in search of my Cunningham roots. My paternal grandfather, John Anner Cunningham, was born on December 23, 1859 according to an entry in the family bible and was born in Newport, Jackson County, Arkansas, according to his obituary. He had a brother George W. and a sister Fannie. My father's name was Marion Wilshire Cunningham and he was born in Oklahoma. His oldest brother was Otis Kendall Cunningham. When I looked up Otis Cunningham on the Family Search, I discovered Otis Jiles Cunningham, b. 9 Oct. 1903 in Newport, Jackson County, AR and died 6 Dec. 1907 and thought there might be some connection to my Otis. The parents of Otis Jiles Cunningham was James Isaac Cunningham who was born in Batesville, Jackson County in 1881. James' father was John Lee Cunningham who was born 19 Mar 1858 in Black River Township, Independence County, Arkansas. John Lee is very close in age to my John Anner Cunningham so I thought they might be cousins. John Lee's father was Isaac Cunningham who was born in the same township as John Lee. Does anyone out there see any connection or have any information that would help me locate the family of John Anner Cunningham? Thanks, Bruce Cunningham

Hi List, A few of you have asked about this book. It can be bought at this web site. The book is only a index and does not give the actual obit. Just gives the date that it appeared in the Arkansas Gazette and what pg it is on. Sandy http://www.willowbend.net/default.asp
Dear Sandy, Where did you get the obit index for the Ark. Gazette? I'd like to order one. And Phyllis, I have the 1870 Ark. index and would be happy to do a look-up for you, but you would still have to go to the Butler Center at the Central Ark. Library Systems (at Markham and close to I-30 in the River Market District) or the Ark. History Commission or an LDS Library for the actual microfilm of the census records. Jan Porterfield
Sandy, would you please look up the following possible obit. in Ark.: James Golaspy ( I believe this is a variant of Gillespie) . Thanks for your kind offer. THANKS to everyone who answered my question about the 1870 census. Phyllis
Phyllis If you live near a city with a large library. ask for the Heritage or genealogy research room. They will show you how to look for your information. there should be an index book for Arkansas census 1870 you find the name you are looking for on the index then they will show you how to find and use the microfilm for that county I have found the people who manage the Heritage room in my library to be very helpful. good luck
