    1. [AGS] Pleasant P. Henderson-SC, TN, AR cir.1836-1878
    2. Hi, I'm looking for any help I can find to break down the wall we've run into. Postings to various message boards have been fruitless so far. My gggrandfather, Pleasant P. Henderson was born cir. 1836 in SC. He married Sarah (possibly Nixon), b. cir. 1845 in AL. They lived somewhere in TN around the late 1850's. Their 1st child, James Jackson Henderson (my ggrandfather), was born in TN on 05/31/1858. They eventually moved to the Enola, Faulkner Co., AR area where all of the above are buried in Cadron Valley Cemetery, along with various other members of my family. A family member has a copy of his CSA enlistment record from east AR that lists his name, birth year and state of birth. We are looking to find his parents and siblings if at all possible. We have information on descendants of Pleasant and Sarah and his 2nd wife, also. Pleasant died 03/05/1878, and Sarah died 06/20/1870. If you have any info on this person, please help! Thank you in advance, Melinda Surname: Henderson

    1. [AGS] Obituaries Index
    2. Thelma Heinrich
    3. What part of the state does this cover? Thanks, Thelma Hi List, I just got a new book. The Arkansas Gazette Obituaries Index 1819-1879. In this book it list the persons name, mo, day, yr, pg and column of the newspaper. You would then have to get the newspaper for that date to see the obit. It's all alphabetized, so if anyone wants me to check for their family...send me the name. Sandy in Oregon

    1. Re: [AGS] Foster Children
    2. Ron & Delores Eveland
    3. Phyllis, My great grandparents raised a foster child who was illegitimate and his mother was in a local county "poor farm" where she died when he was quite young; he was never legally adopted. I also know that there were many children "taken in" by families in Arkansas and other mid-western states from the Orphan Trains that came west from the East around the turn of the century. I had a great uncle who was transported west via an Orphan Train, but he was legally adopted, though his biological history is well known. Many of those children were not legally adopted, but were raised by the foster parents. Go to the following website to learn more about the Orphan Trains (very interesting): http://pda.republic.net/or_train/index_new.html . There are a number of books and articles on this interesting, sometimes sad and sometimes happy, method of "placing out" children.
