    1. [AGS] [APG] Guidelines For Publishing Web Pages On The Internet
    2. Cyndi Howells
    3. Hello all - The following guidelines were recently reviewed and approved by the Standards Committee and the Board for the National Genealogical Society located in Arlington, Virginia, U.S., http://www.ngsgenealogy.org/. I wholeheartedly endorse these guidelines and hope that all genealogy webmasters, newbie and veteran, will review them and take them into consideration when publishing their web sites. Please feel free to forward this e-mail to all interested parties. Successful surfing, Cyndi ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Genealogical Standards http://www.ngsgenealogy.org/about/content/committees/gene5_stan.html Guidelines For Publishing Web Pages On The Internet Recommended by the National Genealogical Society, May 2000 Appreciating that publishing information through Internet web sites and web pages shares many similarities with print publishing, considerate family historians— — apply a single title to an entire web site, as they would to a book, placing it both in the < TITLE > HTML tag that appears at the top of the web browser window for each web page to be viewed, and also in the body of the web document, on the opening home, title or index page. — explain the purposes and objectives of their web sites, placing the explanation near the top of the title page or including a link from that page to a special page about the reason for the site. — display a footer at the bottom of each web page which contains the web site title, page title, author's name, author's contact information, date of last revision and a copyright statement. — provide complete contact information, including at a minimum a name and e-mail address, and preferably some means for long-term contact, like a postal address. — assist visitors by providing on each page navigational links that lead visitors to other important pages on the web site, or return them to the home page. — adhere to the NGS “Standards for Sharing Information with Others” regarding copyright, attribution, privacy, and the sharing of sensitive information. — include unambiguous source citations for the research data provided on the site, and if not complete descriptions, offering full citations upon request. — label photographic and scanned images within the graphic itself, with fuller explanation if required in text adjacent to the graphic. — identify transcribed, extracted or abstracted data as such, and provide appropriate source citations. — include identifying dates and locations when providing information about specific surnames or individuals. — respect the rights of others who do not wish information about themselves to be published, referenced or linked on a web site. — provide web site access to all potential visitors by avoiding enhanced technical capabilities that may not be available to all users, remembering that not all computers are created equal. — avoid using features that distract from the productive use of the web site, like ones that reduce legibility, strain the eyes, dazzle the vision, or otherwise detract from the visitor's ability to easily read, study, comprehend or print the online publication. — maintain their online publications at frequent intervals, changing the content to keep the information current, the links valid, and the web site in good working order. — preserve and archive for future researchers their online publications and communications that have lasting value, using both electronic and paper duplication. ©2000 by National Genealogical Society. 1. [AGS] Linley/Lindley's in Madison/Washington Co's
    2. I'm hoping someone out there knows the Linley/Lindley's of Madison Co where James Linley, who I believe is my grfather, was born March 1975 to William and Penelope Linley (spelling Linley per 1880 AR soundex) in Madison Co Prairie Twp. How can I get birth information ? I am so confused by the different spellings of Linley/Lindley as it appears some spelled both ways and from the same family. It appears the Linley's might have come from Washington Co before James was born. Does this sound familiar to anyone? James Linley, I am told died in a railroad accident when my father was very young, sometime between Nov 1907 and April 1910. I found my grmother listed as a widow in the 1910 OK Pottawatomie Co Wanette twp census. Thank you very much, Ann Linley Kloster

    1. [AGS] White Co. Lindseys
    2. James Monroe Lindsey was born 31 Oct. 1848. In a short history of his life he stated that he first remembered being in White County when he was about 6 years of age. His father died about that time and his mother a year or so later. He and his little brother, John were taken to Searcy Co, by Jonathan Moody. John died there as a child and James continued to live in the Moody household "in dutiful subjection until the war ended in 1865." He lived out the rest of his life in Clinton, Van Buren County. I checked the 1850 census for White County and found James as a 2 year old child. In Red River Twp. #458 was J. Linsey 32 New York, Nancy 44 Ala, William 15 Ala, Nancy 7 Ark, Jane 5 Ark, James 2 Ark. I found James and John in 1860 with Jonathan Moody in Searcy County. James said his father died when he was about 6, so if this J. Linsey was 32 in 1850 he would have been 36 or 37 when he died. I have a tintype of this man and he looks 20 years older than that, of course he was probably deathly ill when it was taken, so would have appeared older than he was, but not that much older. James does not mention the children listed in 1850, only the brother born after that time. What happened to the rest of the family? Living on one side of them was Phillip Crise and on the other was David Crise. The only other Lindsey I have found there was Thomas J. Lindsey, who was sheriff of White County 1844-46. I believe that Thomas J. died during this time. I think it is likely that they were related. Also, they are somehow connected to the Marshall, Searcy County Lindseys. I have a family photo of J.M. Lindsey and his family taken about 1902 that was found among the Lindsey photos of those in Marshall. Those Lindseys are descended from Callum Lindsey through his son, William Shook Lindsey. Callum was born about 1792 in N.C., married in Lawrence Co. Tenn 1826, and was in Sylamore, Izard Co.,Ark. in 1860. Does anyone know anything about the Thomas J. Lindsey that was sheriff of White County? Thanks for any help, I appreciate any feedback. I've been stuck on these Lindsey's for a long time. Virginia potter@ipa.net
