    3. Brenda: The 1900 U. S. Census is fairly easy to obtain. You can visit any one of the National Archives Branches around the county to see the census. You can also get it on interlibrary loan through your local Mormon Family History Library. You did not mention which state you were interested in, but if it is Arkansas you can also see the 1900 census, plus other censuses here at the Arkansas History Commission. Russell P. 1. [AGS] GEDCOM - what does this mean?
    2. Cyrille D Doutherd
    3. Hi, listers: GEDCOM - what is this acronym short for? Also, I want to ask this question: I've contacted a couple of people regarding the GEDCOM they have provided to World Search on rootsweb.com. Both of these contact people really didn't know the people they had listed on their GEDCOM's. One even told me that she didn't know that person had a different father -- this was in response to a 5 children's names, with 4 different surnames. She couldn't tell me anything, but said she would relay my message to someone who could. How can people put anything or anyone on their GEDCOM's -- often times hundreds or thousands of names, they don't even know? Well, at least the two above had viable e-mail addresses. A lot of contact people with GEDCOM's don't have viable e-mail addresses for contact. Thanks for reading. 3. I found my great grandfather listed in the Death Index Book. Is this information taken from a obituary or death certificate? I'm needing to know if there is a notice listed in the local news paper for Tom Mills, Sevier Co; AR. July 29, 1915. If so how can I receive a copy of it? I have tried for over 10 years to find out if anything was ever printed on him. Any relief to my brick wall would greatly be appreciated. Thanks, Sarah Broyles

The note stated they came from Wabash Co., INDIANA, but researchers doing work on this line for 40 years compared notes and agree that it was WABASH CO., ILLINOIS as it is next to Gibson Co., IN which is near Spencer Co., IN where he was found on the 1830 census. Turnbo's Tales states Jesse was "the first settler on Shoal Creek". Location was Shoal Creek, the Jess Bias Place a mile and a half from Pro-tem. Afterwards knows as the Owens Place. Per info in documents by Wm. Yates, "Jess BIAS came to Big Creek in the early 1830's and lived some time in a tent and hunted and killed the fat bucks." per Turnbo's Tales. Does anyone know of a website address to find an on line listing of people buried in the Elmwood Cemetery on South Street in Fort Smith, Arkansas? Is there anyone who can take pictures of a J.C. I am trying to find his date of birth, name of parents, and what J.C. stood for. i realize this is an awful lot to ask of anyone, but I know a lot of you wonderful people always go that extra mile for a comple stranger. Bless you all! Jo Jo, I have a daughter that lives in Ft. Smith. I will see if she can do that for you. The problem is that she is moving right now. She will still be there in Ft. 2. Jo Ann Whitworth
    3. Greetings, everyone. Does anyone know of a website address to find an on line listing of people buried in the Elmwood Cemetery on South Street in Fort Smith, Arkansas? Is there anyone who can take pictures of a J.C. Carver, died Nov 5, 1924, and is supposed to be buried there? I am trying to find his date of birth, name of parents, and what J.C. stood for. i realize this is an awful lot to ask of anyone, but I know a lot of you wonderful people always go that extra mile for a comple stranger. Bless you all! Jo

    1. Re: [AGS] Civil War Pension records
    2. R Kemp
    3. Per the posting below: I cannot say that this is true for all cases, but my great-great grandfather Koon served in Tennessee, and he received his pension from Arkansas - I have the records. I was told that it was the state in which you resided and my great-great grandfather had lived in Arkansas for decades at the time he applied for his pension. Hope this helps. Rebecca >I am trying to find where to get some Civil War pension records. I was told >the only place to get Confederate pension records was from the state they >served in, which is Arkansas. I would like to order a set of pension >records for a man who died in 1908 in Ok but I found in some loose probate >records where the mother of his daughter was the gdn of the child and she >was receiving military payments from the US Pension Agency.
