    1. [AGS] September 23, 1903 Van Buren Argus

    3. Van Buren Argus Crawford County, Arkansas September 23, 1903 KILLED TWO MEN Judge Russell, mayor and postmaster of Gans, a small town about halfway between Muldrow, Indian Territory, and the Arkansas River, shot and instantly killed Jim Choate and Peck Martin Friday afternoon. The men killed were young half-breed Indians who were under the influence of liquor. They had started a riot in the pool room and with drawn knives had cleared the room, they having tried to cut a young son of Judge Russell. The judge hearing the trouble went to the scene and soon had everything quieted down and had started back to the post office when he found he was being followed by Choate and Martin with drawn knives. They commanded Mr. Russell at the same time getting between him and the post office. He warned them not to advance on him, but they continued to do so when he drew his gun and so true was his aim that he only fired two shots, both men falling dead with their open knives in their hands. 3. > >How can people put anything or anyone on their GEDCOM's -- often times >hundreds or thousands of names, they don't even know? I am not sure what the true answer to this question is but I can tell you what happened to some information I shared. I shared a GEDCOM with someone, thankfully I only sent 2 generations along with notes on my research which were incorporated by the genealogy program. About a month ago I found a connection to my gg-grandfather and got really excited until I found that the information was information that I had shared with someone else. The person who eventually used it did not bother to document or confirm my information just accepted it as "truth" and linked my family to hers. She may in this case be correct but the facts are not all in and a lot more has to be done to "prove" the connection. The moral of the story is: Be careful what you share and how much. Be sure to privitize information on living individuals. I saw information on living people in this file and I know they would be highly upset to know that their privacy has not been protected. Fortunately they are not my family or I would have to find a new one. Do practice safety in sharing!! I am sorry this is a little off topic but we do need to watch out for each other and this is part of it. >________________________________________________________________ >GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! >Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! >Join Juno today!
