    1. [AGS] Visit to the AHC
    2. Favor...The next time anyone visits the Arkansas History Center in Little Rock, and if you have a chance and the time, would you please lookup the 1860 Tax list information for 'William H. Green?' I don't know what page it would be on, I believe he lived in Drew County at the time. I will gladly pay for the copying of the page, and any postage. I have a strong feeling that he paid taxes on the following slaves, Nannie, Easter, Mike, Puss and Perry, although their names will most likely not appear. He is not on the 1860 Slave Census Schedule, he may have been missed. But, I would like to know if he paid taxes on any slaves. Thank you all for any help you can give. This has been my brick wall for the past 3 years. Peace to you All, Dena Jordan Pittsburg, California

    1. [AGS] LOOKUP
    2. I am trying to locate in Arkansas any cemetery, funeral, obits on Charles Franklin Browning and his wife, Lula Francis (Autr(e)y) Browning. Last know in Jonesboro, Craighead Co., AR on 1910 census. I know they died between 1910 and 1920. I believe that Lula Browning died first. Their 3 daughters were in the Baptist Orphanage in Drew Co., AR - those records have been destroyed. I'm not sure which county they are buried, we thought it was Craighead, but the records for most of cemeteries in Jonesboro are not on line. I would appreciate any help in locating these folks, my ggrandparents. They are not on the AR Death Index, which was not always current by 1914, so thought I'd try cemeteries. Thanks so much for any help. Margaret Pickens

    1. [AGS] AR cemeteries
    2. Does anyone familiar with the area ( between Norman, Mt.Ida and Hot Springs) which is/was called Mazarn, know of an old cemetery, possibly off the beaten path? I have contacted every state and federal agency in that area and none of them know of it. Someone mentioned a cemetery 7 miles East of Glenwood. My Gr-Grandmother, Eliza Gilchrist Adams is buried there (with no other family) and I would like to locate it before it is abandoned and lost. Thanks, Linda, FL.

You may want to look at the rest of the names on that census in case they ring a bell. At that early age, they could be living very near her parents. Since he was born in MS and she in AR - and they are living in Pike Co. I would look there for a marriage record which might name parents. Have you looked for Sylvester in the 1880 census which names the place of birth of the parents? 1. [AGS] Arkansas Prior Birth Index Volume 1
    2. Jan Davenport
    3. ARKANSAS Prior Birth Index Volume 1 Find your ancestor's birth certificate that has not been available before!!!!!!!!! ORDER NOW, an advance copy of the new and never published index of Arkansas birth certificates prior to 1902, published by the Arkansas Genealogical Society. Two exciting items in researching Arkansas genealogy are available, one in book form and one on CD-ROM. These are indexes of persons born prior to 1902. The book is hard bound, containing 571 pages of data compiled from the original birth certificates from the Bureau of Vital Statistics, Little Rock, AR. The CD is searchable by child's name, county of birth, and mother's maiden name. It will work on computers that have Windows 98, Version 2 and above. Even though Arkansas law had required a birth certificate since February 1, 1914, many people did not have one. Beginning in 1942 they were allowed to file applications for a delayed birth certificate. There was never an accurate index to the certificates thus they were not accessible to the public. In 1995 Arkansas law allowed people doing genealogical research to have access to birth records if they were 100 years old. The Arkansas Genealogical Society approached the Arkansas Health Department and was successful in finding volunteers to index the "Priors." This is the result of the three years of effort and is a comprehensive index of every name in the first binder that is 100 years old. Of the nearly 30,000 names in the index, the oldest one is dated 1849. The volunteers have begun the indexing of the second binder in 1942 which will be published in the near future, along with the 100 year old certificates of binder one. There is more data on the certificate than is listed in the indexes. For instances, the name, age, residence, occupation and place of birth of the parents is on the certificate. The birth order of the child, number of the children living at the time of the birth, twin or multiple births and the number of children born to this mother at this time are also listed. Some certificates are handwritten with signatures of parents and others are typed. All were mailed to the individual, after they were processed, which could be in any state. The spelling of the names was entered as it appeared on the original. If there are siblings listed in the index, get a copy of all of them as the information is not identical. This is a gold mine for genealogical research for Arkansas families. The price of the CD is $30.00 and for the book $60.00. This includes shipping and handling. The book is available now and the CD will be available by the end of August. Please allow 2 to 4 weeks for delivery. To Order: complete this form and send with check or money order to: Arkansas Genealogical Society P. O. Box 908, Hot Springs, AR 71902-0908. 3. Van Buren Press Crawford County, Arkasnas October 5, 1895 Miss Eva Goe, a young woman about town in Hot Springs, was arrested Monday afternoon at Wynne, Arkansas, on a telegram from Sheriff Haupt. The telegram was sent at the instance of State’s Attorney Teague, who desires that the young woman shall tell the grand jury what she knows about the criminal operation performed on Maggie Ryan, who died last Friday, and also to explain what happened with the dead woman’s diamonds. It is whispered that sensational developments will follow if Miss Goe can be induced to tell all she knows about the case.
