For those doing research on early Arkansas families, you may wish to know that 42 plus rolls of early Arkansas tax records are currently available on interlibrary loan through your local LDS family history library/center. The counties in question are Arkansas through Monroe, although Monroe has just been microfilmed. The records date from 1819 to about 1868. However, not all years are available for each county. In many cases these are the only early county records available that have survived. You can also see them here at the State Archives. Visit this LDS site to see what is available: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp Russell P. I am posting this from another list. I thought it might help someone here :) This is a list of men who served under WASHINGTON. Lynda Please note the quotations marks at the beginning; they are of the same source, not my own notations. Source: The Old Free State (Lunenburg County, VA), The French and Indian Wars "It is quite impossible to rescue the names even of all the soldiers of Lunenburg who participated in the various military activities beginning with WASHINGTONS expedition to the Ohio, in 1754, and ending with the defeat of the Indians at Point Pleasant, October 19, 1774, much less to indicate with any degree of certainty the specific service rendered by any great number of them. "The list of those who participated in some manner in these military operations, so far as such a list can now be compiled, is too important to be omitted. Stuttgart, Aug. 26 - The firing of a field gun, loaded by Confederate soldiers in 1862 and spiked by Federals, was a feature of the annual reunion at Camp Fagan, in the southern part of Arkansas county, this week. After that charge the cannon was fired daily during the reunion, which was attended by a large crowd. The cannon was part of the defenses of a small fort on the site of which Camp Fagan is now located. The Federals attacked and drove the Confederates off. The gun has remained there ever since. Two other cannon, one a brass piece, were thrown in a boyou nearby and have never been recovered. _________________________________________________________________ Surf the Web without missing calls!
