Hello List: I'm desperately looking for a death record, and wonder if anyone can help me. Isabella FAULKS THOMAS died in childbirth at the age of 29 around 1924. (She was purportedly married to Will THOMAS; however I can't find a marriage record for her.) So, I'm not even sure if her name would be listed under FAULKS or THOMAS. She lived in Lonoke County, but also lived in Helena AR I believe. If anyone has access to a death index and can look up her name for me, I would really appreciate that or any other guidance. Thanks! Pamela

A "mulatto" is considered half Black, half Anglo.
This "off topic" has run it's course, so please let's get back to Arkansas genealogy. Thanks! Jan D. Thanks for all your answers regarding the above, very helpful. Teri
Excuse my ignorance, but does anyone know the exact race of someone who is "mulatto"? Thanks. Teri
Mulatto, a term often seen on census records before 1880, especially in the South, refers to someone who has one white parent and one African American parent. It can also be used occasionally for someone of mixed ancestry who is light skinned. Once I saw it used for a family that was mixed African American and American Indian. Russell P. For all of your arm chair AR researchers, the LDS folks have placed their abstracts to the 1880 census on their website: http://www.familysearch.org/ You can get into it by going to "search for ancestor". One of the new files available is this census record. I notice they also have the 1881 Canadian census available. Russell P. >>Sorry, but Arkansas death indexes do not begin until 1914. You >>may have to check county probate and deed records, cemetery >>records, church records, etc.<< Russell, you wrote this to Linda. How would I go about searching county probate records, etc.? I'm in California, so do I write for a blanket search (with fees), or how do I do that? I've never explored this avenue of genealogy research. This is new to me. thanks you, Cyrille ________________________________________________________________ Sign Up for Juno Platinum Internet Access Today Only $9.95 per month! Visit www.juno.com
