Under a search for James Jackson plus place died : Kern , I got 18 hits on the CA Death Index that is on line at Rootsweb. (do a google search for CA death records rootsweb and you get several hits) I don't know a birth date or mother's maiden name to help sort him out, so would suggest that you get the search program for the CADI up and see if you can figure out which one he is. It may help to review the article from the OK service before you start to see if has further clues to help. If you or I can get a hit on him I can look at the Kern newspapers. One thing I have noticed with death in one place and burial in another is that the place of death often does not have an item in the paper ... don't think I would do it that way, but some folks do. Let me know how you do ... we should be able to find this guy. ron in CA -----Original Message----- From: glswings <glswings@pacifier.com> Sent: Mar 17, 2004 9:52 AM To: blueoak@ix.netcom.com Subject: Re: [AGS] CA History Room I was just wondering if maybe while you are looking you could look up something for me. Hi Asella, I like your email (fulcrum25) .. very cute. Are the folks you want help with in California? If they were, and died here, I can check them thru the California death index and then look for a news item in the county where they died. I am sorry that I can't do that in Arkansas. I bet there are folks in AR who would help though. ron in CA -----Original Message----- From: "Asella M. One of my wife's ancestors was wounded in the Civil War at Pea Ridge. We understand that he later died and was buried at a cemetery in Little Rock. Is there any way I might find out which cemetery would be more likely to be the one? Is there any way I could find a book or listing online of the people who might be buried in this cemetery or cemeteries in Little Rock. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Martey Massey
Hi, I began collecting information 34 years ago, but did not have any guidelines at the time. I have since learned that documentation is crucial, but I had failed to get any in the beginning. I made many mistakes because I didn't know what I was doing - such as "making assumptions", rather than having facts. Unfortunately, some of these mistakes have been perpetuated by others, and it is now impossible to "put the toothpaste back in the tube". So, it really helps to know what you are doing and to do it correctly right off the bat. There are many places online where you can find lessons in how to do research: http://rootsweb.com/ http://www.familysearch.org http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com There are also instructive books, such as Netting Your Ancestors, by Cyndi Howells Virtual Roots, by Thomas Jay Kemp Hope these help! Happy Hunting, Ann Billings Rheney

Sometime following 1876, Lemuel Dillman moved to AR with his family which included a son named Frank Dillman. The article ays that they settled in Brandford, AR. where lemuel worked for the Studebakers and the Iron Mtn railroad. Then on to Newport and finally settling in Paragould, AR. During this time, Frank met and married a girl by the name of Elizabeth E. (Lizzie) Phelps. They married ( prob. 1886 ) but I can't find a record of the marriage and/or her family in the area. Frank and Lizzie left AR. for St. Louis, finally settleing in Carruthersville, MO. Any info would greatly be appreciated. I've been on this line for over 25 years. Thank you very much, Alan
