Is there a possibility that some one may be able to take a photograph of my father's grave? He died in Chingola in September 1964 and was presumably buried in the New Chingola Cemetery as the Old Nchanga cemetery was officially closed in 1958 according to the eGSSA gravestone project. In the "Hawick News" (Scotland) of August 25th, 1916 is the following obituary: "For King and Country: Beattie - on the 26th June (1916), at Chinsali, Central Africa, Pte. John Beattie, Northern Rhodesian Rifles, third son of the late Archibald Beattie, 1 Twirlees Road (Hawick)." He is not buried in NDOLA (KANSENSHI) CEMETERY in Zambia where other First World War casualties are buried. Can anyone tell me what happened to John In June 1916 and where he was buried please? My grandfather born 1895 in Blackburn, Lancashire, England. He came over to South Africa at about 25years old. His name was Ernest Cort Dunn, he married Doreen Isabel surname unknown. They had a son, Michael Alistair Cort Dunn, who was born in Mazabuka in 1925 ans was baptised in Cape Town 1926 (ancestry24). Michael and his wife had a son in about 1946. I believe the family may now live in Botswana. It is possible too that the middle name of Cort may have become more of a double barreled name Cort-Dunn. Any further information would be appreciated.

Hello, My granfather was Julius C. Chabala. He was supposedly born in Lusaka to a Chashi Chabala. He has a number of siblings there according to his ex-wife, Maxine Chabala-WIlcox, whom he married after coming to the U.S. for school to be a doctor. THey had two childen, CHisunga and Chashi, named for his mother which is supposedly a passed down name. He came to the States in the mid to late 1950s. I have his passenger records in my files somewhere but i have not looked at them in a while. I do know that he spoke bemba and judgiing by the names mentioned about him i believe he was of that tribe. He eventually went back to Zambia and that is as far as my knowledge goes. The Zambian Archives Postal address is; - Box 50010 Ridgeway, Lusaka, Zambia. Each "Political" era has their own Archives so you have 'The Federation era", the Copper Mines, etc a bit confusing but they know what they are about. I have always found them extremely helpful. Your query is a bit "early" for me to help you. I have the Voter's Roll for 1933 or 1932 I think, if anyone needs I'll dig it out. Natalie

Hi Cheryl, I managed to find a death notice for Cornelia WHITE born DAVEL is South Africa but it does not give parents names other than Mother was Mrs Davel staying with CJ Blignaut, Bredell in SA. She died at Central Hospital in Lusaka in 3/12/1964 and that is it. CJ Bligtnaut was a brother in law as her one sister, Anna married the Blignaut. Thats it for now. Hi Moyra Any idea when they came to Zambia? From SA? Like Cherly said, could be difficult. I have some books but mainly concerning old timers, missionaries particularly and pre 1900 immigrants. How old at death? Any idea where they lived in Lusaka? Hi Cheryl, thanks for that advice. I am doing this for a friend and we have very little info, so here goes. Cornelia Petronella WHITE born DAVEL died in Lusaka on 3 Dec 1964. Is there any way we can see if there is a grave or grave stone or even a death notice so we can see who her parents were? Thanks again.
