I am trying to find out what happened to my father's uncle, Johannes Josephus HOEFFGEN. He is shown on a passenger list intending to disembark at Dar-es-Salaam per the "Kenya" in early 1956 (departed UK 30 Dec 1955 on way to Mozambique) and I have located a naturalisation document for him in the National Archives(UK) from about 1956. I'm presuming that this would have been British nationality but am not sure. I've ordered a copy so I don't know how much information it will contain yet. What I do know of him: Date of Birth: 16 Jul 1906 Place of birth: Rotterdam, Holland At some point he became a citizen of Tanganyka, according to the passenger list - it states his current nationality as shown in passport as Tanganyika, his last and future places of residence for more than 12 months as Tanganyika. Marital status in 1955: single, but there is a family story that he married in Africa and didn't go back to Holland Profession: On the passenger list it states he was a Foreman-Operator but the family story is he went to Africa to become a missionary. The family was Roman Catholic. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I could find out more about what happened to him? Thanks Marjorie Bly
Hello, Has anyone taken a genetic genealogy test? If you have, would you be willing to help me with a study of genetic genealogy testing? I teach sociology at the University of British Columbia and I'm very interested in the experiences of people who have taken DNA ancestry tests, especially if the results have an effect on people's lives or identities. I'm hosting an online survey – you can complete it anonymously and it should only take about 10-15 minutes. You can complete it here: http://faculty.arts.ubc.ca/wroth/SurveyIntro.html Thank you so much. If you know of other people who've taken genetic genealogy tests, would you also pass this along? Wendy
I am interested in making contact with any member of the Delorie family that moved to Tanzania from the Seychelles. I would also appreciate any information on any of the Delorie as well Regards Clive Barker
I have been told by a cousin of my late fathers that family by the name of WATSON lived in Nairobi and Tanzania in the early to middle half of the 20th century. My great grandfather was Charles John Watson born 1866 in Bethnal Green, London. His parents were Edward Watson and Mary (nee Lyons). Charles married Louisa Sarah Hillier and they had 3 known sons and a daughter. I think they may have had another daughter possibly called Florence. Tina Claydon (nee Watson) Devon UK
I would like to search the Tanzania Telephone Directory for families in which I am interested. I am hoping that the telephone directory is available on line and would be grateful for the internet addresses where it can be found. Thanks Clive Barker
