Charles Delphin & Augustus Delphin. No sisters. John Jerome Delphin’s mother is Delphine L’Adroite/L’Adroite Delphin. I’m unsure about his father though. John Jerome Delphin married Catherine Conin but also goes under the name Mary Kane. The two married on June 2nd 1851 in Hobart, Tasmania. G'day List Still trying to confirm if the Charles Hubert who died in Mauritius in 1867 aged 69, and is buried in the Old Cemetery Pamplemouse, is the same Captain Charles Hubert from Saint John New Brunswick Canada, who disappears from my research about this time? My Charles Hubert was a ships captain, the same age as the Charles who died in 1867, so I would like to know, if possible, if any other details are available that will confirm, one way or the other, that this is my Charles? I have emailed the Civil Status Office and Mauritius Archives, but have not received a reply. Does anyone have any other ideas to assist finding more information about this death please? G'day List I am new to this list and am hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction to find more about the death of a Charles Hubert in Mauritius in 1867. I believe this man to be a Captain Charles Hubert, who was living in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada around 1847, when he was in command of a ship called the SEA. I have not been able to find any trace of him after 1847. He was born in Jersey around 1800, married in New Brunswick Canada before 1839, where his wife Mary died in 1883. Today I found a burial of a Charles Hubert in the Old Cemetery Pamplemousses. The details are; D Section, No 25, Date 1st March 1867, Age 69. An Emile Hubert, born 1845, died 1865 is buried in the same plot. I would very much like to find out anything on this Charles, to prove or disprove he is Captain Charles Hubert. I have a couple of similar examples in my family - going both ways: a Mauritian/South African who was seconded to the British Troops and a Brit. who was seconded to one of the European forces. In both cases, any information I have found has been in the British records. I’m guessing a bit, but I think the Mauritius Regiment would have served as part of the British and/or Commonwealth forces. So perhaps that might be a good avenue to pursue.
