    2. Carol Smith
    3. I am new to this list and have one specific thing that I need help with if there is anyone who might be able to assist. My cousin's father was born in Angola and she needs to obtain his birth certificate or some similar proof of his birth. His name was Laurence Edward DAVIS and he was born 13th September 1930 I have no more precise location of where he was born My cousin lives in South Africa and has written to the embassy in Angola and tried to ring but with no success. She has asked me to help her because she is becoming rather stuck for ideas. I should be so grateful for any advice anyone might be able to give. Carol Smith

    3. Hi Carol If your friend's father was a British subject I would suggest she contact the British Embassy. They usually kepts tabs on all nationals born abroad. In 1930 Angola was still a Portuguese colony and the Portuguese Civil Registry Offices they would be the ones who would take care of taking down the records if your friend's grandfather took the trouble of going there. After independence many of the registry books were left in Angola but I'm not sure what the state of those books is. Many were destroyed during the armed conflict. I know for a fact that most books were not brought back to Portugal when the country became independent. Good luck on your search Ana Ghia-Pereira Ottawa, Canada Researching: Guia, Fernandes, Bendrau, Bengio, Paxiuta ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carol Smith" <c.richardson53@ntlworld.com> To: <AFR-ANGOLA@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 12, 2008 10:07 AM Subject: Re: [AFR-ANGOLA] Birth certificates in Angola >I am new to this list and have one specific thing that I need help with if >there is anyone who might be able to assist. > > My cousin's father was born in Angola and she needs to obtain his birth > certificate or some similar proof of his birth. > > His name was Laurence Edward DAVIS and he was born 13th September 1930 I > have no more precise location of where he was born > > My cousin lives in South Africa and has written to the embassy in Angola > and tried to ring but with no success. 3. Hi, I was born in Angola as well, in the 1950s. I got dual citizenship by birth, as got my father (German and Portuguese). I wonder if there is some kind of agency in Portugal that would have the birth information. I am not sure I could get a German birth certificate, I do have a Portuguese one though. How about the passport. Everybody had a passport in those days. The British embassy in Pretoria might be able to help, otherwise the office in England who was responsible for those things.
