    3. Hi Jody, It's been an interesting few weeks around here. Through curiosity, got on [email protected] and couldn't get off. I was getting about 100 hits a day and most of them weren't of any interest to me but sprinkled in were a few people asking for information on their families. I thought, before I once again try to get off, I'd post a quiry about the Adrian family and did. That night I got mail back, Hermann Adrian age 36, a carpenter from Prussia Bertha Adrian age 32 Anna Adrian age 4 Emma Adrian age 1 we didn't even know about her They arrived on the Strassburg on 26 May 1882, embarkation Bremen debarkation Baltimore destination Chicago Hermann got off in Boston, I don't know if that was a mistake or on purpose but there I was for years checking the New York port of entry, never even thinking about Baltimore. This was definately our family. As for the message you got from Bernard Adrian. A strange thing about the Adrian family, while they came from the area around Danzig, they spoke high German, it should have been low German. Anyother thing, we kept hearing stories how they traveled through the Black Forest. Somehow this family had ties to the middle or southern part of Germany. I can account for most male members of the, Julius had no children, I know nothing about Otto Ferdinand, these are children of Heinrich and Louise Adrian. When it comes to Hermann Adrian, his male children died off. We had computer problems and then we're moving this computer to another room, it maybe awhile before I get back on line so I thought I'd send this to you before I unplug everything. Talk to you later. Carol

    3. Hi Carol, In the 19th century, a part of the west side of Germany belonged to Prussia, it was known as "western-Prussia" or "rhinish-Prussia". But for my Family Adrian, i believe they did'nt speak german, but french. Of course, they could have learned german after 1871. But why did they speak german in America ? Perhaps because, there was any french people around ? While i scribe that, i imagine a scenario : Hermann (Armand ?) Adrian left Alsace-Lorraine (or he became a war-prisoner in 1870-1871), married Bertha in western Prussia, and after their second child was born they emigrate, but it is only a scenario. You know, one of the Adrians (Christophe) from Bisping was soldier of Napoleon, at the beginning of the 19th century. He took part in two battles (Dresde and Waterloo). In Waterloo, he was made prisoner by the Austrians : during 9 months he was prisoner in Austria, and then he came back in Lorraine.
