    3. My Adrian grandfather, Carl Julius Adrian b 1869 in Bannesdorf, Fehmarn Island, Germany. His father was Heinrich Adrian. These Adrians with spouse, sibs, an uncle Jacob Adrian, emigrated from Fehmarn Island to Davenport Iowa ~< 1810. some lived in Holstein Iowa for while. The Adrians did not have deep roots in Fehmarn Island but married into Fehmarn families. They came from Grossenbrode, Schleswig-Holstein, which is a city in mainland northeastern Germany, on the Fehmarn Strait across from Fehmarn Island. The genealogy of the Fehmarn Adrians is on the Fehmarn Island net site http://www.accesspro.net/fehmarn Fehmarn island was sometimes Danish territory, sometimes German, and was caught in much conflict. The Fehmarn Islanders were quite insular. OTHER UNRELATED ADRIANS I have come across several other Adrians, not mine. On the Wuertenberg Emigration Index web site several Adrions/families of Adrions are listed, who migrated to N America. One family is from Sulz and Freudenstadt, which I believe is in Switzerland near Germany (Black Forrest). The other family is from Obendorf, Austria near Germany (near Munich). Bothe sets are from S. Germany. I read on a web site that Adrians from Ireland Americanized their name from O'Drean and variants thereof. Also, I live close to the MD Archives, visit it often, and noticed the colonial Adrians (1700's) in the Baltimore area. Don't know where they came from. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Tuesday, March 16, 1999 11:16 AM Subject: ADRIAN-D Digest V99 #11
