We had one for a few years until Lumpi chewed her way out of the house. Last Lumpi he had. Oma was wonderful...I remember her doing headstands well into her 60's and maybe even older. I loved their house on Long Boat...it was filled with furniture and art from Germany, rugs, on a canal and had a triangular shaped pool. My mom knows a cousin on Oma's side and remembers hearing about an Eva on my dad's, but isn't sure of the last name. Family history you may or may not know: When Oma and Opa came to this country, Opa enrolled in NYU night school to learn English. He had been an attorney in Germany and earned a graduate degree in this country, maybe in finance or something as he was treasurer (?) of a Wall Street company. At the same time he opened a photo shop to support the family. Oma was some kind of a nurse's aide to also bring in money. Opa was responsible for reparations in the southeastern USA to help Jews in reclaiming assets taken from them in Germany. Occasionally he would have to go to Berlin to argue his cases in court. Oma had said she would never set foot in Germany again and, when he had to go back, would meet him in France. Once while in court, Opa came across the man who had turned in Oma (and her family?) for being Jewish. Opa and this man recognized each other...the man came over to say hello and Opa spit in his face, saying "this is for turning in my wife". Hanna and Adi - do you know their parents' names and were there any other siblings? Michelle Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
