    2. Bernard Adrian
    3. Hi listers ! I'm studying the parish records of Bisping (Lorraine, France) since 1686 to 1782 and I found 49 ADRIANs. All of them are the descendants of Nicolas ADRIAN (d. bef. 1712) and Catherine ALY (d. 1703). Those datas are there : http://bernadrian.free.fr/genealogie/Adrian-Picard.htm Friendly, ----- Bernard Adrian, http://bernadrian.free.fr

    1. Adrian family,

    3. The past few weeks have been full of surprises, the first being [email protected] I've always had a terrible sense of curiosity and really did it this time. I wanted to see what it was and subscribed to it but couldn't get off, no matter what I did. I was getting about 100 hits a day, that was when the computer was really acting up. I wasn't in the mood to hear about ships, how many stacks and so on. Sprinkled in between were some people asking about their relatives, they had little to go on except their birthdays. Before I got off this site I thought I'd ask about the mysterious Adrian and Kusch families. I was shocked when mail came back telling me when and where they arrived. The Adrian's still were quite a mystery. While I had the towns where Herman Adrian was born, Mroze W. Prussia 3 Jan 1846, his father Heinrich Adrian born in 1815 and his father's name was Gottfried. Even with the information I had, I couldn't find their actual records or any further information. One big question, how did Herman Adrian from W. Prussia meet Bertha Kaminske from Regenwalde Parish Pomerania. I started to research the Kaminske family, finding out what I could on Regenwalde Parish and guess what, the Adrian's were there, Big Time. Stramehl, Kreis Regenwalde, Pommern. My Uncle use to mention how the Adrian family use to take trips but he never went into detail. I have yet to connect those Adrian's to our immediate family but research sure has become interesting. I have little doubt Herman met Bertha while visiting his relatives in Regenwalde. For those researching the Adrian family, it's another area to check out. Carol

    1. Kansas ADRIANs
    2. Jodi
    3. One more question tonight. Anyone have connections with ADRIANs in Kansas? I just filled in data with the 1900 census for my husband's family and see that one of the kids of his gg grandparents was born in Kansas. Unusual only in that the family was living in Coles Cty., IL, before and after that birth. I can think of lots of reasons they would have been in Kansas for a short time, and family being there is just one of them. The parents were James Willard ADRIAN (1858-1933) and Zara/Zira Ellen HOUGHTON. The Kansas son was George Byron ADRIAN (1886-1966). Thanks. Jodi

    1. MD/OH ADRIANs...Help?
    2. Jodi
    3. To anyone researching the lines of Jacob ADRIAN and Keturah COLE of Maryland, later of Jefferson Cty., OH -- I could really use some clues and guidance. Please excuse the long post. I'm confident that my husband's Illinois lines come through the same family, but I'm a little overwhelmed on where to look next. I have John ADRIAN (b. bet. 1822-1826 in OH) married Oct. 1852 in Coshocton Cty., OH, to Elizabeth TIPTON (b. bet. 1828-1832 in OH). The family moves along to Shelby Cty., IL, around 1870, then to Coles County, though I lose track of these parents at that point -- no death or burial records for them yet. An older Elizabeth TIPTON, born in MD, is on the IL census with them (probably Elizabeth Tipton Adrian's mother). Kids were James Willard, Mary E., George W., Mordica Melville, and maybe a Katie if she wasn't the same as Mary E...which looks likely from the dates. I'm doing well following these kids and can share with anyone interested. In the surrounding county of Christian Cty., IL, is Mordecai ADRIAN (b. April 1834) and wife Malinda. It seems to be the same couple as Mordecai ADRIAN and Malinda LITTICK marr. 2/26/1857 in Muskingum, OH...right next to Coshocton. The names and places parallel those of the descendants of Jacob and Keturah. Even the dates are close -- another John Adrian marrying Elizabeth Rainey in OH in 1852...another Mordecai Adrian born a month earlier than this one in OH. And other TIPTONs marrying ADRIANs. All I know about Jacob and Keturah is what I've been able to find on-line since I'm still missing a generation in between. But, if others are right in their research and there is a connection, my husband's John ADRIAN would have to be a son of Honour (1790), John (1792), Mordecai (1796), Jacob Jr. (1804) or Joseph Lemmon (1807). Don't quote those birth years...that's someone else's data! So, my big quest is to confirm where each of these sons ended up, track them on the census, find out when they married and died and get their estate records, etc. -- with the hope that the right John or his children will be mentioned along the way. So I'm putting out the plea...if you know anything about any of them that could help or save me a wild chase, I would be very grateful. Jodi [email protected]

    1. icm list
    2. Sorry about the mix up everyone.  Probably due to my error (but don't tell any one OK?).  To join the ICM list you need to send an e-mail to [email protected] Then write "subscribe icm-list" in the body, and in the subject line.  But if you have any questions you can write direct to Bill Spurlock at [email protected] International Cemetery Month May 2002 I would like to introduce you to a new List. It is dedicated to recording forgotten cemeteries online.  We are trying to make the month of May 2002 the International Cemetery Month.  To many old cemeteries are being destroyed before the information can be recorded.  Our goal is to collect that information, compare it to the map of the cemetery if at all possible, and transcribe it online for others to find.  Most of the collecting will be during the month of May, with the exception of Alaska which is still covered in snow at that time of year (no, really.  Ask Charlotte after you join the group).  A lot of Counties also have cemeteries transcribed but are putting them into books that you have to pay for or not transcribing them at all.  If the information is taken from the book and put onto the Web you are guilty of copy write infringement and can be taken to court.   This is a huge project and we need a lot of help.  Tied down with kids?  Take them along.  To many cemeteries are being destroyed by teenagers that have no respect for what a cemetery stands for.  If you are unable to get out and about that's OK, we can use your help. If you would like to subscribe you will need to write to Bill Spurlock at his address or follow the instructions above.  Bill will gladly put you onto the List.  He is the owner of the Web site "Saving Graves" and is renowned for his knowledge on cemetery preservation.  I hope to "read" from you soon. Sincerely, Renee Waring [email protected]

    2. Bernard Adrian
    3. Hi Carol, In the 19th century, a part of the west side of Germany belonged to Prussia, it was known as "western-Prussia" or "rhinish-Prussia". But for my Family Adrian, i believe they did'nt speak german, but french. Of course, they could have learned german after 1871. But why did they speak german in America ? Perhaps because, there was any french people around ? While i scribe that, i imagine a scenario : Hermann (Armand ?) Adrian left Alsace-Lorraine (or he became a war-prisoner in 1870-1871), married Bertha in western Prussia, and after their second child was born they emigrate, but it is only a scenario. You know, one of the Adrians (Christophe) from Bisping was soldier of Napoleon, at the beginning of the 19th century. He took part in two battles (Dresde and Waterloo). In Waterloo, he was made prisoner by the Austrians : during 9 months he was prisoner in Austria, and then he came back in Lorraine. 3. Sorry, I forgot one important thing. I bought the Family Tree Maker and looked at their index and got excited when I saw all of the info on Herman Adrian. Before you buy a disk, you can look at the basic info what the disk has. Was disappointed and a bit angry to see the information was contributed by a bunch of names, two of which I recognized, one being the name Grueneich. Someone contributed the information I gave them which in itself is no big deal but our living family names were also included in that Family Tree List. I would have hated to buy the disk only to find out the info that was under the Adrian was put there by me. That information would have been quite limited. Carol

    3. Hi Jody, It's been an interesting few weeks around here. Through curiosity, got on [email protected] and couldn't get off. I was getting about 100 hits a day and most of them weren't of any interest to me but sprinkled in were a few people asking for information on their families. I thought, before I once again try to get off, I'd post a quiry about the Adrian family and did. That night I got mail back, Hermann Adrian age 36, a carpenter from Prussia Bertha Adrian age 32 Anna Adrian age 4 Emma Adrian age 1 we didn't even know about her They arrived on the Strassburg on 26 May 1882, embarkation Bremen debarkation Baltimore destination Chicago Hermann got off in Boston, I don't know if that was a mistake or on purpose but there I was for years checking the New York port of entry, never even thinking about Baltimore. This was definately our family. As for the message you got from Bernard Adrian. A strange thing about the Adrian family, while they came from the area around Danzig, they spoke high German, it should have been low German. Anyother thing, we kept hearing stories how they traveled through the Black Forest. Somehow this family had ties to the middle or southern part of Germany. I can account for most male members of the, Julius had no children, I know nothing about Otto Ferdinand, these are children of Heinrich and Louise Adrian. When it comes to Hermann Adrian, his male children died off. We had computer problems and then we're moving this computer to another room, it maybe awhile before I get back on line so I thought I'd send this to you before I unplug everything. Talk to you later. Carol

    1. ADRIAN or ADRIEN ?
    2. I did some research in the archives of my father, grand father and g-g father's birth town in Belgium (Gingelom). Some documents will state ADRIAN and then, for the same person use ADRIEN. I concluded that the two spellings are used intercheangably. Does any one have similar experiences. What conclusions? C. ADRIEN
