Jay was born Aug. 9, 1960, in Alexandria, VA, to Jarrell F. and Nancy G. Adkins and grew up in Alexandria and on the Northern neck of Virginia. He is survived by his parents in Clemmons, NC; his sister and brother-in-law, Judith A. and John B. Thomspon, of Winston-Salem, NC; his sister, Rebecca Ann Adkins, of Summerville, SC; his niece, Jane T. Ciener, and her husband, Greg, of Winston-Salem; his nephew, J. Christopher Thompson, and his wife, Suellen, of Kernersville, NC; four great-nieces, Caroline Ellen, Katharine Jane, Elizabeth Anne Ciener, and Macy Estelle Thompson; his best friend, Jim Hines, of Houston; and many other wonderful friends who loved him dearly. Jay was a florist in Houston for more than 25 years and gave many friends and loyal customers his gift of artistry and creativity through his genuine love of his work. He will be remembered for his contagious sense of humor, his giving and loving ways, and his love of this life on earth. Jay, we love you, and you will be in our hearts forever.
