I too am researching the ADKINS line...I would love to have cpoies of the documents also. I have lineage from : present to Hezkiah Adkins (m) Mary Levon Hezekiah 's parents are Parker V. Adkins Mary polly Frye Parker V.'s parents are Wm V. & Elizabeth Parker however I do not have any document's to these people. I have gotten the above 3 parents from internet. So If You have documents and would send them either by internet or mail, I would greatly appreciate it. I ran into a problem when I pulled up my WFT. I have two different entries for Thomas Adkins. One is s/o William Adkins and Susannah Lanier& b. 1803 in VA. The other Thomas is son of Howell Adkins & Elizabeth Heath b. NC (@1804. I kept both entries in my tree because I am not sure which Thomas was my 3rd great grandfather. I had corresp with a descendant of William Joseph Adkins who was the s/o of William Petway Adkins. . She based her information on the source quoted below which had been copied and sent to her by another Adkins relative. However, the name Petway was so unusual that I had searched further and found on rootsweb that name with William & Susannah Adkins in VA. In looking back over my records, I can't find any source that says the initial P. was for Petway. There were many Adkins in Montgomery Co (spelled variously Adkins, Atkins, Adkins), but they all seemed to come from the Halifax NC area--not directly from VA area. Source: p. 121 of Montgomery County TN History Book 2000: QUOTE Howell Underhill Adkins (b. ca. 178? d. Dec 27 1866), son of Thomas (b. 1730 d. 1805) and Mary Underhill Adkins, was born in Halifax Co, NC. In 1818, he arrived in southeastern Montgomery Co and settled on land purchased from Andrew Stewart. He was a charter member of the Fredonia Masonic Lodge, and at his death in 1866 was the oldest Mason in Montg Co. I am enjoying the accounting of this particular Adkins. I have some Adkins info on my gr grandfather Benjamin Colledge Adkins who came to Mississippi in 1873 and his ancestors are very interesting. Ben was born in 1844 in Coventry, County of Warwick and I have some info on Adkins there and also in Australia. Who knows? There may be a connection on down the line. Grandmother went to Bluefield, WV when she was 18 to work as a housekeeper in a boarding house which provided room and board to itinerant coalminers. This is where she met my grandfather, James A. Haley. When I chided her one time about travelling alone to an unknown place in those days, she indicated she had family already there. Do you think this Percy and Eliza are your grandparents? If so, I can give you some info on the Adkins line.

She told me of her aunt who had been deaf. Later, my cousin, her granddaughter had a son who was born a deaf mute. Many Adkins have migrated from Franklin Co. over the past, many to KY, so there probably is a genetic trait that has been passed along. I have suspected this when so many deaf people happen in one family. Where did your family originate?

Holy Cow --- I think that you just identified one of my grandfathers! You are a blessing! You're a relative also. Do you need information on descendants of Thomas Adkins? My 2d great grandmother was Marina Turner Adkins. She was the daughter of Thomas Adkins and Nancy Cothern. She md Valentine Quincy Jarrell. Their son Charles Jarrell was my 1st great grandfather. Thomas and Nancy lived in Montgomery Co TN as did Marina and Valentine and Charles Jarrell. All the Jarrells are buried in Jarrell Ridge Cemetery in Henrietta, Montgomery Co, TN. I have pictures of the headstones. The old family land is still in Jarrell hands. I have small amount of information on rest of Thomas's family. I have a William Petway Adkins and back further. William Petway Adkins was born 25 July 1796 Sussex Co. Virginia, He was the son of William Adkins and Susanna Lanier. I have a William P. Adkins (b. 1832 d.) md Priscilla Council Feb 14 1859 Montgomery Co TN. William P. was s/o Thomas Adkins (1804 Halifax NC--1882 TN) and Nancy Cothern (1807-before 1870) who lived around Montgomery Co TN. The P may have been for Petway. I can't find any older connection than this one to the name "Petway". Father of Nancy probably was Thomas Cochran/Cothran/Cotherine who lived near Nancy and Thomas Adkins and their son William P in 1850 and 1870 census Montgomery Co TN. Not listed 1880 census.
