The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Neal-Tarpley Chapel, with the Rev. Linda Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service Thursday at the funeral home. Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was born Jan. 22, 1922, in Montgomery County, daughter of the late Herbert Leach Adkins and Lucille Smith Adkins. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Frances Adkins and Evelyn Adkins, and one brother, Herbert Adkins, Jr. She was a retired bookeeper for Willoughby Drugs and had been a member of Hickory Point United Methodist Church since 1938. She loved her family and her church and also loved gardening, sewing, working, her flower garden, and was a wonderful cook. Survivors include two sisters, Anne A. Langford and Jeane A. Clark, both of Clarksville; nephews, John Adkins, James Clark, Russell Adkins and Michael Clark; nieces, Linda Langford Troupe and Elizabeth Langford Morris; greatnephews, Brett Adkins, Nicholas Morris, John Morris, Cameron Clark, Caleb Clark, and Samuel Clark; greatnieces, Jennifer Adkins, Ashley Adkins,Taylor Adkins, Katie Adkins, Hanna Clark, soon-to-be Lily Clark and Margaret Clark (her namesake); sister-in-law Ghoram Adkins; and brother-in-law, Robert Maurice Clark; care givers, Gwenolyn Terry and Shirley Stacker. Pallbearers will be Russell Adkins, John Adkins, James Clark, Michael Clark, Gregory Troupe, John Morris, Nicholas Morris, Lee Troup, and Andy Swaffer. Specifically, did they have a son or grandson named William M. Adkins (b bet 1867 - 1872)? William's Death Certificate indicates that his father was named David Adkins. But I have never been able to find the right David Adkins. In the 1860 census, David (age 34) and Nancy (32) Adkins have a son also named David (age 16). I have not located the younger David after 1860. I wonder if he could be William's father? I understand that one of the Davids was convicted of murdering a Margaret Adkins in the early 1870s. I don't know if this has anything to do with my difficulty pinning down William's father but I need any and all details that may help me sort this situation out. Thanks!

The deeds indicate that Jane Caroline was the wife of Eli Newton Adkins. Eli was born approx 1819 in Kershaw County, South Carolina. I believe he married Jane Caroline _______ before they moved to Florida. Any help with Jane Caroline's maiden name would be appreciated.

Do you know if David had a son named William M. Adkins (b 1867 - 1872)? My William's Death Certificate says his father was David Adkins but, assuming that is correct, I can't them in 1870 or 1880 census records. But if David was in prison for a time that might make sense. Could this be the case?

Yes, my William is from the Whitley Co., KY and Campbell Co., TN area. I have found him in both places in census records. I recognize some of the names you mention from my research but have never been able to prove which line my William comes from. His Death Certificate says his father was David Adkins but his mother's name is not given, unfortuantely. He was born between 1867 - 1972, depending on the source. If you can help that would be wonderful!
