My greatgrandfather Lon Adkins was probably born in the 1850s in the U.S. and died in Hawesville Hancock county, Ky in the 1940s or early 50s at an age in the nineties. He did have a daughter, Ethel Adkins born about 1890 died Breckenridge county,Ky in 1942, my grandmother who was married to Edwin Jackson. Wish you success in your forther search

I have been working on my Book on the family who served in the Civil War. Currently I have 148 family members who served in the Civil War from Pittsylvania, Franklin, Henry Counties. I am still searching for others who I am certain that served as well from this area that are connected to the family. I have over 26,000 names in my family tree now, and it grows weekly with more research. I also do Civil War Reenactments, and have been in 28 different reenactments and memorial services so far this year. If anyone is interested in Civil War relatives who served from Pittsylvania County and surrounding areas I can probally assist you. My files are too large at this time to transfer them, but I will be glad to answer any specific questions on a one on one basis. He is located on the 1900 Tazewell Co., VA census in Enumeration district 102 on page 16A HN # 292 with a wife (whose name is illegible) and then children on page 16B. His age on the 1900 census is illegible also. The children listed are: Enoch, son, b. Mar 1873, age 27 Samuel L. son, b. July 1876, age 23 John P., son, b. Sept 1881, age 18 William S., son, b. Mar 1884, age 16 Henry H., son, b. Sept 1886, age 13 Bales, Gracie, daughter, b. July 1875, age 24 married 7 years, 3 children 1 livining Enoch, grandson, b. Feb 1895, age 5 I do know that Sylvester's son, Enoch Adkins married Amanda "Mandy" Lambert in Tazewell Co., VA on 23 July 1904. On the marriage register Enoch Adkins lists himself as 33 and widowed, and he gives his parents as Sylvester and Victoria Adkins. I would be interested in ANY information anybody might have about this family's ancestors or decendents. Thanks!
