Good day everyone, I am bringing forward a very serious issue which needs to be addressed to anyone and everyone that is involved in genealogy, historical groups, or heritage groups. Anyone involved in these areas has bound to have done research on their own family trees, which would include birth & death records & perhaps burial locations of these family members. Depending on the time frames, many may be buried in private family cemeteries rather than church cemeteries or memorial parks. There is a serious problem occuring with these cemeteries being developed on either with homes, businesses, or roads/streets. Currently there is a VERY serious problem in Hanover County,VA that I would like to make you all aware of. You can find more information at: http://www.savinggraves.com/usa/va/pebblecreek/index.html At this site you can see for yourselves the treatment that human remains are receiving, the manner in which this process was started & has continued, and the evidence showing that this should be stopped immediately. (I do not live in this subdivision/neighborhood nor am I connected with this family) I have been involved in this particular incident since the beginning of the exhumation process and will continue to be involved because of the disgraceful manner in which this is being done and because this is NOT the first cemetery in this particular county in VA that this has been done to. I urge each of you involved in genealogy or historical/heritage groups to check on your own private family cemeteries no matter where they are. Have someone make sure headstones are still there, the area is cleared of debris or overgrowth, and that any burials there are recorded and documented with the appropriate courthouse. Cemetery laws, unfortunately, vary from state to state. Check the laws in your county/city and state to be certain how your own family cemetery is viewed under the law. Most importantly, please pass this information along to ANYONE you may know who is working on their own genealogy or a member of any heritage/historical groups.
