I would appreciate any help I can get..... Today I found a second part to the Adkins/Goad information. I really could use some help on this line. My husband G-grandfather, Jesse Adkins, BORN 1827 TN. (The state came from the census.) He moved to KY with his mother Elizabeth Adkins (Maiden name unknown.) two brothers, Samuel and William. Jesse married Judith Elizabeth Dabney 18 March 1851 in KY. They had ten children, three in Ky, two in MO.and one in IO. The rest were born in OR. I have been lead to believe he was one of the descent of Adkins/Goad. Could you possibly help me on this line? Betty
Don't know if there's any connection at all, but my g-g-grandfather was James W. Adkins (b. abt. 1833 KYorVA; d. aft 1870 Elliott Co., KY; m. Juliann Jarrell on 22 OCT 1857, Morgan Co., KY). I am also seeking any information on the parentage of this James W Adkins. Thanks, Andy. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, May 07, 2002 5:07 PM Subject: [ADKINS] ADKINS from Virginia > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AJ.2ADIB/2077 > > Message Board Post: > > Looking for relatives of James ADKINS b. In Ronnie Adkins book "Adkins Land of York to Beech Fork", he states: "In 1790, probably in Hawkins County, Tennessee, Owen, Agnes and 2 of their children were murdered by indians. Son, Jessee, just two years old, was scalped but survived and is carried on in this history. Owen Jr. and one other child hid in a log until the indians were gone." I will look and post another reply when I find it. It was in Tennessee, I assume while they were on their way to Kentucky. Luckily my ancestor, Benjamin Adkins Sr, lived, but in later life there was a fight over his will,by Wasington Young, who used the excuse " in his lifetime had been much afflicted by a wound he had received in his head by Indians many years before his death, by reason of which his mind was greatly impaired and indeed, was much deranged." Since Mr Young was seeking some of the great wealth Mr. Adkins, one of the first settlers in Kentucky had amassed in his "deranged state"with his mill on Little South River, no wonder the suit lost. I found that on worldconnect. rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op= GET&db=adkbase&id=1392 It may be that my original info is at my mom's, in her written family accounts of the travels west. I can't find it here.

He married Julia Catherine Withem and the family settled in Little River, Miller, and perhaps Johnson, Arkansas. I am stuck trying to locate Great Great Grandfather Adkins so that I may determine Aunts and Uncles, perhaps Ohio or Nebraska.
