I am searching for ancestors and descendants of ROBERT ADAMSON who was born about 1800 in Scotland (possibly Kilmarnock). He was in New Glasgow, Terrebonne County, Lower Canada (Quebec) by about 1825 and by 1841 and moved to Coldstream, Middlesex County, Ontario. I have a sampler which has been passed down which has stitched on it "SARAH ADAMSON, age 12, 1820 Kilmarnock". I do not know how Sarah is related- possibly a sister. I have been able to locate a Sarah (born at the right time in Kilmarnock ) in the IGI as the daughter of William Adamson and Margaret Millar. I cannot locate Robert in the IGI. ROBERT ADAMSON married Mary BAKER b. Vermont and had children named Margaret (b 1825), William (b 1826), Robert Jr. (b 1831), and Mary (b 1836). I am a descendant of William who later moved to Port Austin, Huron County, Michigan. There are no surviving males in this - my father was the last. I do not know what became of Robert Jr.- possibly there are some descendants there. ROBERT ADAMSON Sr was quite well educated and a minor politician. Some of his letters have been saved in the National Archives of Canada Robert ADAMSON settled with other Scots ( Robert HUNTER, HUME LAVERTY). Robert HUNTER of Paisley ,Scotland came to Lower Canada about the same time as Robert Adamson and received land as bounty for service with Scots Guards (The Kiddies ) in the Napoleonic wars. Any help or clues would be most appreciated. Thanks Roberta Adamson, Michigan U.S. REAdamson@earthlink.net higan U.S. REAdamson@earthlink.net
