I have some clinkers to throw onto long established genealogy about the children of Basil Adamson, 1728 - 1785. >From the diary of Elizabeth Scholl which is in the Oregon Historical Society, Portland, OR: "Basil Adamson married Nancy Spires - my mother's parents" - Elizabeth Scholl "Names of Lucy Adamson Cowhick's brothers and sisters: Greenbury Adamson Elisha Adamson married Nancy Bell John Adamson Phebe Adamson married Basil West Nancy Adamson married John Boyd Amelia Adamson married Charles Galaat "Polly" Mary Adamson married Joshua Jacobs Elizabeth "Betsy" Adamson married George Borwell" Then her mother Lucy Adamson married Thomas Cowhick would be added to Basil's children also. But from "Prospectus Genealogy of the Adamson Family": In one place it says:"The Georgia branch of the family is descended from Basil Adamson, chiefly through one son, Greenberry Adamson. Basil Adamson's other children were John, Elisha, William, Washington, Frederick, Lloyd, Elizabeth, Keziah and Barbara. Greenberry was next to the youngest son. John, the oldest, served in the Revolutionary War." (This is list used in many DAR applications.) Then on another page: "The records show that in settlement of his (Basil's) estate the names of Elisha Adamson and Ann Boyd appear. Why no others are named is not known, but the inference is that he had previous to his death made some provisions for them." ****Ann Boyd is not shown on the Prospectus list of Basil's children, but is shown on the list from the diary!!!! (Ann is Nancy Ann Adamson) Can anyone solve this puzzle? Then to add to the confusion - the abstract of John Adamson's will, probated 17 Jan 1832: Wife: Sally Adamson Elizabeth O. Prather, wife of William Prather (daughter?) Grandchildren:William W. Beckwith, John A. Beckwith, Amelia Beckwith, Lucy Beckwith, Ann Beckwith, Henry Beckwith, Robert O. Beckwith, children of dec'd dau. KEZIA Beckwith - "Paradise", "Paradise Enlarged" and "Magruder's Hazard" Grandchildren: Elizabeth Ann Duley and Emily Duley, children of dec'd dau. Eleanor Duley Sons: John Adamson, Jr., Elisha Adamson, Hilleary S. W. Adamson, William Adamson Brother: Frederick Adamson Grandchildren: John S. Adamson, Sarah E. Adamson, Narcissa Adamson, Walter H. Adamson, Robert L. Adamson, Leonidas Adamson, children of dec'd son Lloyd Adamson Ex: John Adamson, Jr. Wit: Jesse Leach, Wy. Janes, Thomas Perry Might some of the children on the Prospectus list for Basil really be children of John, his son???? But then, John does name a brother Frederick!!! (Rex, thank you for making me out to be the expert on this family but as you can see I keep getting more and more confused!) I descend from Elisha Adamson, who married Nancy Beall, so I would be glad to answer questions about that family. Have quite a bit of information and family history. Have one other question I hope someone can solve though: Elisha Adamson, Jr., b. 1803, married 14 Feb 1828 Mary Ann Robinson, b. 1809 in Clarke Co., OH. Who were Mary Ann's parents????
