Jerry, if a person was over 60 years of age he did not have to pay land taxes. Some tax collectors recorded the persons name if they were over 60 and noted in the tax book that the person was exempt from taxes but most tax collectors did not record people over 60 years of age. No James or other Thomas. I think Thomas Jr. got married sometime during the year. In 1788, Thomas Jr was in Morgan Twp Tax List, John and Joseph in Cumberland Twp. Tax List But, . No Thomas Sr or James. James got married in 1789 and appears in Cumberland Twp Tax List in 1793. Thomas Sr died in Feb 1790. I have always wondered why Thomas Sr. didn't appear on this 1788 tax list. Any ideas? -- Jerry F.
